So far so good. Both my engines have girdles on them. The vacuum is good on a 274" 4.1. I also have a vacuum tank so the brakes work fine. When I had a 3.8 in the truck, vacuum was not too good, so I added the vacuum tank.
It's a Comp custom roller grind. I run NA with Nitrous. I have the same cam in my 4.1 now. It's .526 lift with 1.65 rockers on a 108 LSA with 228 intake and 230 exhaust @.050 lift. Same cam as an old Kenne-Bell Mk II R cam. Pulls hard in the mid range on a 4.1.
I just ordered a set of Johnson Race Lifters from Full Throttle. Maybe they will not be as noisy as my Comp885's. I wanted the short travel lifters, but the race lifters were the only ones listed.
It appears that neither type is available yet. I'm waiting for the short travel rollers to become available. I am running Comp 885 short travel lifters right now. The short travel lifters seem to be a lot noisier than any other type. I run mine at zero lash as recommended by Comp.
No problems with the Scorpion rockers, just the crappy studs Champion sent me. One broke a long way from home. I went with ARP studs and it has been fine ever since.
I picked up my short block today. It all came out perfect. Some photos of the finished product are attached. Balancing was expensive with two plugs of Mallory metal.
I e mailed my contact from Comp. He said they are still working on orders from 2021. I ordered my custom grind on July 7th, 2022. It's going to be a long wait.
The short block is ready to go. I'll have to wait until I get back in town to pick it up. The invoice is really reasonable for all that machine work and assembly. The only charge I don't know yet is for balancing to 50%. Has to be a slug of heavy metal to get it right.
The line hone and boring are done and the crank now turns freely. The latest snafu from the machine shop is that JE packaged the wrong oil rings. I told the machine shop to get a cheap set of 4" rings and just use the oil rings. The top and second JE rings have been file fit already to my...
I bought a custom grind from Comp Cams for my N/A 4.1 stroker build 8 months ago and I am still waiting. I keep e mailing the rep and all he answers is still no blanks.
The V6 built by Smokey Yunick is on display at the Don Garlit's Museum Of Drag Racing in Ocala, Fl. It had an interesting side oiling arrangement. I'm not sure if that is the same engine in your photo.
Those Advance Adapters header flanges won't work on later high port heads. I tried some for a custom build and they won't work. I finally tig welded the bottom of the port openings and ground the port openings higher for future use.
