A buddy is having problems with his 3rd gear holding behind his T/A motor in his 200-4R. He's putting a 400 in it in the meantime, but is wondering: Does anyone make a drum that holds more than 5 clutches? He wants to stay with the 200 b/c it's a street car and he likes the O/D, but is there a way to hold 800+ hp in a 200? He said he can't get any more pressure out of his pump so is hoping more clutches would do the trick but the 5 he uses now don't want to hold.

    TIA.

More clutches won't help. Dual feeding, replacing the apply piston and using heavier springs in the drum will help.

It will help but is anyone out there running a T/A motor with 800-1000hp in front of a 200? He'll leave the 400 in it if need be, but he's wondering if he has just hit a limit with the 200 at this point. He's not one to lower the power to save a tranny. Thanks for the reply. What do you think is the hp limit of a 200-4R even if built to the max?

Yes adding more clutches than stock helps for sure but the really high count clutches packs equal thinner steels and thinner clutches......thinner steels equal less heat sink/wick capabilities......heat kills.

There are 200 4R's out there over 900hp. Not what id be using if it was my car but they are out there. 8.80's is the quickest ive heard of. Without re-engineering the entire trans its limit is around 750 ft lbs. I should rephrase my prior post by saying that adding clutches will help but not at the expense of thinner steels.
