Scanmaster, Translator pro, Powerlogger. New to the GN scene and my car has none. I have been researching and finding out some good info on the GNs. Can somebody steer me in the right direction as to what Ineed to begin tuning. Thanks in advance.

Scanmaster monitors ecm & sensors MINIMAL MUST HAVE to avoid damaging car
Translator allows use of newer/bigger MAF
go to vendor site here & look at the tech section for more info

Get a Powerlogger....learn how to use it...go from there.

A power logger is basically a better scan master that records all the data rather than just displaying it. Although I'm pretty sure it needs to be hooked up to a laptop.

A scanmaster is good a powerlogger is also good. I have both i use both to run a wideband and get a 6.1 chip which allows you to fine tune your setup for example my favorite is that you can lock a target Air Fuel Ratio at wide open throttle, you can choose alot of other things, what mph to lock converter for ex.. you can also display alot more info on the scanmaster you can have the scanmaster read your afr, boost rdg , spark advance, egt Temp, map info, alot of info that is needed. i dont know how i used to drive my car without a plogger. Its cheap and worth it. you can also run it off your laptop see what happening in the motor real time instead of flopping thru the scanmaster and finally you can record data to see what you need to work on. It even shows you IDC which is VERY important shows you how stout or weak your fuel system is i basically I love it..i have it installed and can't even tell its there.

a scanmaster is that fugly radar detector looking thing that people velcro to their dash, usually above the radio.. it's useful, but man, is it ever ugly.. they really need to make one in a form factor that fits in a regular gauge holder or something..

Right here. I run the same stuff and at the track having the power logger is nice. It's nice to be able to go back and see what happened and when.

So with a power logger, I can make adjustments to boost and fuel through the computer without popping the hood? Also, do I need a wideband to run the 6.1 chip or can I just plug in the 6.1 chip? Thanks for the advice.

No, the Powerlogger is a data logger. It is not a tool to make boost adjustments and such. Although, with special chips from Full Throttle, or Turbo Tweak, some (I repeat some) adjustments can be made on the Powerlogger screen, things like different torque converter lock up points, various fueling adjustments and a few others.

Scanmaster is a SCAN TOOL to monitor sensors under the hood that the ECM sees. No laptop required

Powerlogger is a High Speed DATA LOGGER, so you can record and later review the data. Requires a laptop

Translators, of which there are three are used to run much more modern MAFs than the unreliable stock units.

Regular Translator which runs several different types of chevy mafs and has rudamentary Base and WOT fuel adjustment knobs in the box

Translator GEN II which runs several different types of chevy mafs but is far more modern with front panel controls, many more adjustments for fuel and timing, and the ability to use Wideband control at WOT conditions

Translator Pro which has all the same features as the GEN II but adds MUCH more control, and is primarilly designed to allow Speed Density operation (MAFless), and also uses Wideband control of fueling, and can if desired control boost in a closed loop mode, and also the abiltity to control a second fuel pump in a double pumper setup. Plus MANY more features.

Here's some good reading on all of the devices: http://www.maftpro.com/index.shtml

    Hope some of that helps.

Powerlogger and Scanmaster. You can never have too much data. So much easier to tune.
