question for Mobil 1 oil users.

A guy I know has a 20k mile TType, he is the original owner and has used Mobil 1 from day one. We got to talking about oils and I mentioned the lack of anti-wear agents in conventional oils today and he got concerned and asked if Mobil 1 has the anti wear agents. I didnt know for sure so I told him I would ask a group of experts that I know ....That of course is U guys. So what do u think does Mobil 1 have the anti wear agents needed for a stock cam or not. Also what is the life span of the Mobil 1 sitting in an engine and started every once in a while---should he change it out after 6 months even if the mileage never gets close to 3k?

I have used Mobil 1 in both my cars for years. 4 years ago I switched to a roller cam in my T-Type but my GSX still has a flat tappet cam. Even with the use of Mobil 1 during all this time, the GSX suddenly developed a flattening cam lobe this spring!!! Now I always add GM's EOS with every oil change in the car with the flat tappet cam.

I think for a car that is seldom driven, it might be a good idea to change the oil twice a year. I'm no expert, but this is just my opinion.

Bad news GM's EOS has been discontinued.
Alot of folks like the diesel oils. Shell Rotella, Chevron
then there are the dedicated racing oils. Valvoline Vr-1

You have just asked a question that is a topic of much debate. I have spent hours surfing the internet about conventional vs synthetic. Most experts say that you cannot go wrong with synthetic. It is supposed to have more anti wear agents than conventional oil however I am not a chemical engineer or petroleum expert. I am strictly going off the advice of many experts who have shared their opinions.

I don't know if Mobil 1 has changed, or needed to change, to meet the new regs. According to its original owner, mine has had various weights of Mobil 1 since new. I've had it since 1999+/- and stuck with the program-check my sig.
PS- GSX cam wear-I read a very interesting post re. cam wear/break-in recently on this site, had a link to comp cams site. Do a search and you will find info on the cause.

Got tired of Mobil and the rest of them changing their recipe. I drive my T every day it gets nothing but one of the best oils you can get, Royal Purple. I don't have to worry about EOS or any other additives. I put the RP in and forget it about it , no worries.

i see amsoil passes all tests. now i got to find the oil in the chicagoland area.... i find wharehouses but i have to see if they sell to the public. parts stores around me don't sell amsoil and jegs and summit dont either. the gm dealers around me are out of eos so i will make calls tommarow and see where i can find amsoil....

This was interesting reading and the best part was I got the answers I was looking for. I should have stocked up on EOS when I had the chance.

EOS is still available under a Delco part #.

Of interest to me is Mobil 1 "high Mileage", I haven't seen an analysis of this yet but I saw it in the local wally world. Of interest is it's SL rating. It seems like SM is where most motor lost their way so an SL rating should theortically be better.

Out of curiosity what conclusion did you come up with?
