Hydroboost

We Prefer Our Stainless Hoses. They Have A Banjo Swivel End Swedged On One End For A Clean Look. The Hose Set Is $285.00. Warranty On A New Unit Is 1 Year, Reman Is 6 Months

I was looking this set up on Summit's site and they're selling the hose kit for 325.95  So the going Hydroboost setup is 875.59 through summit. Is there away to get the lines for 285.00 bux?

Thanks

i personally dont know what to do about the brakes on my car, right now it has the factory set-up that is wacked out and hard as hell to push and the pump dont stop running...the vacuum set-up i hear is hit or miss as far as building boost...and now the hydroboost??..it sounds perfect for all cars exspecially a turbo car,but im hearing that our power steering pumps run in reverse and by adding the hydroboost it may wine???..i cant have that,it will drive me nuts...so vacuum may build boost and may not-,but is super cheap+,maitinance free+....hydroboost,build all the boost you want+,but may have pump noise-,cost more than both-,but should last longer than both+,matinance keeping fluid clean-.....factory,original look of course+,never know when its going to fail and if you can get parts for it-,too many parts that can fail compared to the others-,will build enough boost+,cost alot of money for new,if you can find one-,and remans..who knows?
this is really my own delima right now and i need to do something soon as driving with hard brakes sucks for quick stops....
i want the hydroboost for sure, price to me is not a issue...but i dont want NO pump wining as it would drive me nuts,i guess i could just keep the radio up..... i would like to build at leat 10psi on the line with a vacuum set-up,possible or not? any ideas....

I'm not sure about the P/S noise but I'm for sure going Hydroboost. I've had p/s pump noise before and it can be crapy to hear but I want brakes I can trust. The Vaccum brakes is nice but the Hydro is calling my name more. I figured I will run the best p/s fluid they mention for it and change it once a year. If the pump makes noise, I'll buy a new/reman one and see if that helps.

I just took my GN out for a spin Thusday evening and as a got to the end of the block, the pedal got rock hard and the vehicle would barely stop  . I have rebuilt my PM unit and replaced accumulators, pressure switches, motor and now I would like to say I'm done with powermaster. Last year I purchased a used hydroboost from a member for cheap. I then sent the unit to PowerBrake Service to have it gone through. So within the next few weeks, I will be researching the hose setup and installing a hydroboost unit. I expect to have a nice power assist brake system and never ever have to worry about powercrapper issues ever again. This is a great thread with lots of information. I wish someone would show us some pictures of their power steering/hydroboost hose set ups.

Ditto,

Let us know what ever you find out on hose kits. The only ones I've seen are through PowerBrakes and Hydratech. Their pricng is a bit confusing to me

Here is the link for Summits kit ( PowerBrakesystems), but Bob said they sell for 285.00 for the staimless kit?

http://store.summitracing.com/partd...2775-601&N=700+401104+320713+115&autoview=sku

SCandC.com is a distributor for Hydratech their site says "All lines (Aeroquip braided stainless) and fittings included for easy installation." why would someone need to buy a line set seperately ??

I will take and post pics today. Here is a link with pics of how to make the hoses yourself. http://www.hydratechbraking.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=133

As far as noise, I followed the proper bleeding procedure (air is the major cause of noise) and have very little noise. I am not running the best fluid either. I bought the cheap stuff to purge the system. Eventually, I will switch over to the recommended valvoline semi-synthetic stuff.

This is the only info posted on SCandC.com's site about the Hydroboost that I could find...

I can't find anything saying one way or the other about what lines they supply with the kit.

At any rate, if you buy the system from Hydrotech with the M/C for 89.00 bux, the system comes out to 800.00 bux...where as both Bob's brake kit and line kit together comes out to 875.00 bux. The deal is, Bob stated his line kit is 285.00 in this thread but Summit has it for 325.00 bux. If you can get it for 285.00, you would be paying right at the same price as Hydratech even through they throw in the lines with their kit.

go to SCandC.com click products scroll down to "Hydratech Hydraulic Brake Boosters", click it the first thing on the page says

"Hydratech Hydraulic Brake Boosters
Are you running a big cam that doesn't make much vacuum? How about a turbo or two?
Have a BIG motor in a small car and no room for a vacuum brake booster? Or maybe you just want to increase the line pressure and clamping force of your brakes while reducing pedal pressure? Hydratech`s performance valved hydraboost brake boosters will handle all of the above! A Hydratech hydraulic booster will increase the performance of stock brakes and make aftermarket brakes work even better, all with less pedal effort and great brake feel. These systems are direct fit on most popular muscle cars and piggyback off the factory power steering pump so no additional pumps are necessary. All lines (Aeroquip braided stainless) and fittings included for easy installation."

Hope this helps !

OIC...

Hey thanks

I should have the money Friday to order my kit. Then all I'll need is my new street chip from Eric. Well, I'll still have a transmession issue, but I'm knocking crap of the list one item at a time ;)

Has anybody given any thought to using an aftermarket power steering pump, or are we all going to trust the OEM pump?

1985 Gn

:)
I have access to a 1985 GN hydroboost & thats the way to go.
I now have a lifetime warranty PM & may stick withit.
I tried the vacuum conversion & it was a nightmare.

I had the lifetime warranty PM, but the problem is that all you ever get is a rebuilt unit. And they are not always reliable. I don't know for sure, but I've read on these boards, that all the parts are not available to do a complete rebuild. So you go to all the work to replace the PM, and maybe it will conk out again in a short time. It's just too much of a pain for me to do over and over, so I'm switching to the HB.

The thought has crossed my mind but I haven't done ony research on it. I'm not sure how well our stock P/S pump will work on the brakes but I was looking more for something to solve the noise issue if I ended up with it.

I know that some people have gone to aftermarket p/s units for handling reasons, with an alternate steering gear. And they are cheaper than the GM units. My p/s has many, many miles on it, so it makes me a little nervous to put an additional load on.

I don't think your P/S pump will know the booster is there.

If the 85 set up is not serpentine belt set up then I suspect that PS pump will not work on an 87 engine. and as someone stated prior, I don't think the PS pump will know the difference.

Be warned that the HB conversion is harder than the vacuum. To do the HB, you have to remove the bracket that holds the PM, and that involves four nuts that are up under the dash, above the brake pedal. And you have to tie in to the power steering hydraulic lines. On my car, I ended up removing the intercooler, along with the air cleaner and the MAF and piping, and then the power steering pump.

So have you done the HB boost convertion yet?

Yes, I finished it Wednesday. Didn't spend enough time purging the air from the lines, because I finished so late, and now I have noise from the PS pump. But maybe it will go away- that's what I'm told, anyway. The setup has more braking power than the PM I replaced, but there isn't as much pedal travel, so I'll have to take some time to get used to it.
