My little cat is 20, soon to be 21 years old this spring and i was typing earlier this evening and heard a thunk.

Im not sure what happened, but i turned around and saw her mousing her head low to the ground and moving around erratically.
This is her 3rd or fourth time lately loosing her footing while standing up and moving around.

I know she hit her head on the wood scratching post on the ground, i feel bad for her. About 4 minutes later she was normal, but she still has me worried. I am dreading the day she...... she is only 6.5 lbs and 20 years old, im only 34.

She is about that age when you know something is going to be bad, and tonight i thought it was that moment. Lost my irish setter the same way, it was horrible.

Lately ive been feeding her canned cat food to fatten her up... she has been with me for 20 years.

Good luck with her. Animals are much more than just a fuzzy inconvenience. They are family and for some just like a child. I've heard people say "It's just a dog..geez". The same applies to cats or any other living creature you love. The people who say that are missing out on something special. At least you and I know that  Keep treating her right and try to be there for her when the time comes. She'll appreciate it and so will you.

Even though your cat hates me, shes still cool as hell :) MOMO rules

She is back down with me again, cat really loves to be around me most of the time. She used to be a terror cat, but last 10 years she has been great, loves kids and dogs of the family.

I had a boy cat for many years that was like a dog and would come to me when i parked my car at the end of the driveway. They are great friends and i think each one has their own personality.

She is one of the best pets ive ever had. Still fully clawed and does not tear up the furniture.

sampson the black one died of cancer, and delila was maincoon and has that disease where the heart fails. its genetic. i miss them

Sorry to hear, Bryan, and I feel your pain, as know that animals are a part of the family just as people are. I lost my cat, Rascal, at about age 24, just about a month ago. Virtually broke my heart. I had him through thick & thin, several GF's & relationships, since about '87 or so. I don't know if it is better to let them die of natural causes or to put them under. I let mine die at home, figuring that it would be better for him in his normal surroundings, and I will never know if that was the right decision. Darn near killed me watching him die. If I had it to do again, I don't know which road I would take. GL & HTH.

WOW!! Your cat Delila looks exactly like my wife's cat Nibblet. Same pose and look on her face. I have 3 cats. 1 male and 2 female. All fixed. One female is a 3 legger and faster than the other 2. They are more than pets. They are family so I know what you feel. If I have to put an animal down, I want it done here at home so they are somewhat comfortable. We had to take our ChowChow in when he had heart problems and put him down pretty much as we walked in the door. THAT was just like loosing a child to me since I have no children. He was 12 years old. :(

21 years old is amazing for a cat. Is it an indoor only cat? I think the deal is you have to think of is the animal's well being not your own feelings. If their quality of life is waning then it might be time. As long as it is still getting around OK, not in pain and is eating and drinking leave well enough alone.

Know what you are going thru. We lost our Ragdoll cat about 1 year ago and it still kills me when I think of the scene at the vets office. We stayed with her when she was put down and the peaceful look in her eyes still gets to me. She was only 14 and was a great cat. Was especially tough on my son as she was older than him and was there every day of his life.

We didn't want to see her suffer any more as she had some kind of kidney cancer and got to the point where she wouldn't drink or eat anything. About 6 months previously she had some sort of seizure in our bedroom and we thought we had lost her then. Perfectly still and hardly breathing and then all of a sudden she came back to us and was OK. We feel we got to be with her extra 6 months than we should have and that is comforting.

Good luck with the cat Bryan. We had to put down 3 animals in less than a year last year, was the first time I ever had to that in my life, then had to do it 2 more times after than in less than a year, 1st wqas a dog of 9 years, then a dog of 15 years, then our cat of 17 years...it was my wife's cat before we married, she called it PC for Pycho Cat.it was a male and she kept it indoors so it was very wild...when she moved in with me it had a cat door to come in and out, and became much tamer since it could go out and chase things..so his name changed to Big Man..he was a cool cat, and much like yours, became more attached to me then, would follow me out to the garage all the time or out to the boat house.
21 years is a long time, sounds like she is still going pretty good for her age. Ours quit eating or would throw up his food alot in his last few weeks and began hiding in different odd spots around the house. And actually didn't have him put down..took him to our vet, but he passed away while at the front counter, so it was a little easier on the 3rd time.

We lost a cat last year, 14 years old. Kidneys went. She passed away on the veterinarian's examination table. Was my wife's cat, Peaches...unfortunately my wife was deployed at the time. Peaches was 27lb cat, like to jump in water, chase squirrels, lizards, and birds. Actually caught a squirrel once laid on it to hold it down...but didn't quite seem to know what to do with it after she got it restrained.

Bryan, I feel your pain brother! We had a siamese cat named Dave, she was female, my dad is an odd man!!!! She died when I was 27 and I believe she was 23 years old. She was around practically my whole life. I was at my parents while she was shutting down. She kept trying to move but couldnt not move her back half then she was gone. She was a great cat. I miss having her sleep on my chest when I was a kid. Now my dog Toby, who is a Mastiff, sleeps next to me!!! That a HUGE difference, I'm just glad he doesnt try to sleep on my chest like Dave did!

Wow, cat has been on this earth as long as you. I have heard of one living to 20 but not 21. Can't imagine loosing one of my animals.

Hey thanks guys, she is doing just fine today. Back to her same routine :)

In the winter time, she is a indoor only cat, but the rest of the year she comes and goes in and out. Spends the night inside every night.

You guys want to hear the story of her missing for 3 months?

When we were moving into this house 10 years ago, we decided it would be a good idea to bring the cats over to get familiar with the different house.

Well, we brought them over here and they were not happy, she got away from us and literally TOOK OFF from the house that we had not moved into yet.

So we move into this house over a month later, and never found her, we figured she was gone forever.

The morning of my grand mothers funeral i was outside on the back patio around 5am, it was dark outside... I see this black cat about 30-40 feet away from me, it was kind of checking me out.

My first thought was, man, whose black cat is this????
Then i finally realize, hey,... thats MY cat.

When we were at my grandmothers funeral, everyone had their time to talk about the good things that grandma had done for us.

We let everyone know that grandma did one last good thing for us and guided the cat home that morning of the funeral.

She is always doing something

Russian Blue.. Smokey is his name and watching his dish is his game.

One night I pulled out the acoustic and started pickin a slow blues riff and a few lines go like this..

Let me out, Let me in (dat da dat da.. dat da da)
let me out, let me in.......
I turn around then I do it again,
let me out then let me in.

Check my dish and nothin there, (Dat da dat da. dat da da
Check my dish and nothin there
I look up at you
and give you a stare

Just let me out then let me in

kirban 2 cents worth

Had to comment here....I have a cat names Smokey....grey & white ver outgoing and friendly. She and one of her off spring live in my pole building (keeps the rodents away)...building is heated.

We have an indoor cat that we almost ran over on our road 5 years ago that was a mere kitten. Caught her in the dark....

At 20 plus years old that is very old for a cat....proves the cat has had great care and I hope your cat has many more years left.

I lost one several years ago got hit by a car....not often a man cries but that day....was not like any other day....
