2017 TSO Rules Discussion

I have received everyone's vote except Don & Martin (they're probably busy discussing transmissions). Anyway, everyone but Manny voted for me to be the final decision in rules.

Based upon your proposals, here are my thoughts. These are NOT FINAL and I would encourage discussion before I make them permanent.

1. Limit the class to a 16 car field. It has always been my hope to have a bump spot for the slower cars to fight to get in and get the guaranteed payout. This has never occurred. We've been close the last several years.

2. The minimum qualifying time is 6.30 We had a 9.90 bump when we were 1/4 mile. This eliminates some "fillers" jumping in for the guaranteed payout.

3. No wheelie bars. We instituted a penalty a few years ago. Since we don't have anyone running them, now's the time to eliminate them.

4. Fuel. This is where I need some persuading. I am still not convinced we need a penalty. I think nearly every BG and tb.com TSO winner has run gasoline. Do other sanctioning bodies penalize E based fuel? I am definitely against M-1. Allowing that opens up all kinds of things (no radiator, no intercooler, spool up/boost advantage, etc..)

Leaving exhaust rule the same?

Unless someone convinces me otherwise. The only car it effects is Tom Robison. Are you running in this class next year?
If my new car fits the rules I will be there. Based on peer tech and a few people proposing exhaust rule changes I would hope you consider it. I agree with no bull horns, but make it within 4 or 5 inches of the body exit.

I would also consider the weights. We are racing at sbc weights and most classes give a weight break for a v6.

If the car is done I will run

But planned chassis mods will make getting an exhaust on it difficult.

This is good news. For some reason I thought you were going V8. It looks like several racers are bailing out of TSM to run TSO next year.

"Rule #2. EXHAUST: No part of turbo exhaust may exit forward of engine flywheel area and a muffler is required."

Since it's not built yet, a decent chasis shop should be able to overcome this. Every other TSO car has so far. Please post up or text me pictures showing why you can't do this. Or is it, you just don't want to? We don't need to start changing rules for cars when the cars can change for the rules.

Please post the link, so I can review. My data is obviously old. The rules I saw were:
Turbocharger: T-76 - 3,200 lbs. T-80 - TBD (Cecil County) 50 lbs. off the 76 mm cast turbo base weight (04/11/2016)
I know there's a 200 weight break for V6

I assume your building an Ultra car?

Yes, I'm building around Ultra rules. Every organization offers a 200 pound break for v6. After speaking with John last year he said he would probably give the v6 something else due to the difficulty of getting that light.

So right now, TSO is only 50# heavier than Sears Ultra Street Rules. But, you get to run a bigger/better turbo and any tire. On paper, it looks like you could go faster in TSO trim than Ultra. Get your car finished and we can adjust the rules accordingly. No use make changes on "what if's"

If you have a hook, billet wheels and increase turbo size to 88 for the V6's.

I'll try......

If Ultra rules allow the use of M1, E85/98, Q16, C16 why not allow it in TSO? Since the discussion of Ultra vs TSO rules came up, why not allow an Ultra based TSO car on M1 race?
