E85 vs. alky

Here's my cold start just now. It's about 40*F here outside. Inside the garage it's about 50*F evidently. It's been about 3 weeks since I started. Wondering if the Optima had enough juice to get the job done, but it did OK.

My GN fires right up even in the 30's .. E85 isn't your problem ... might want to look into that battery .. when a battery is weak on these cars ALOT of things Suffer...
 
I fired mine up after 2 weeks of freezing weather and it was 40° out today. Cranks a little more than on gas, but for the most part, it's good.

On my street car i run E85 on 57# injectors, yes the 55s ...too small right? Thats what everyone will say.. btw with Stock lines, and it see's anywhere from 22-25 psi, wish it could go more but that's all the wg actuator is giving me right know.

What's your goal / combo?

What pump or pumps are you using?
What chip are you using?
 
I like Red'S DP i was using an Aeromotive filter tho with stainless steel mircon element. Car had good grounds. I always run a VOLT BOOSTER. I like to check voltage at pumps stock wiring really was marginal to begin with. Good alternator, and a chip from Eric. Before i get the car into boost i would drive with the fuel pressure gauge on the hood and verify fuel pressure rise with boost that should tell you how your fueling is. I def had pressure.

If your engine combo is good you shouldn't have an issue my car had a stock cam so it really never winded up i kept the rpm's low using 28"tires. Good Trans and Converter set to shift where i wanted. Car ran fantastic. It wasn't that fast but who the hell cares it was more fun than any race car i have ever owned, A street T that can rip tires on any down shift is fun reliable why go a sec or 2 sec faster but have horror stories behind it???

I really don't know how so many ppl have fueling issues, i basically had a stock car that i would take to the track and run low 7s consistent with almost nothing.
 
I think early chips didn't have enough cold cranking fuel. From my readings E85 doesn't atomize nearly as well as gas when going into cold cylinders, so it pools up a lot more. Therefore you need to spray a solid amount more of E85 for cold starting. I had Bob up the cranking fuel in my chip, and it made a hell of a difference.

My update.
Went to XFI and i can now switch from an E85 tune to a 93 tune in a few seconds.
For example i went out to kirbans a few weeks ago, i just ran the E85 low then filled up with 93 changed the fuel setting and drove 200 plus miles with out missing a beat ---- While on 93 i kept it to regular driving no more than 5-8 psi because the timing was still set for E85. and i don't have the ALKY injection hooked up at the moment.
NOW one thing that i am considering is keeping my Alky injection kit for minimizing/addressing heat soak that my cheap front mount can be suffering from. My idea is to move the ALKY nozzle to the outlet of the turbo so that spraying the ALKY can cool the IC, pipes and intake. A Buick guy also suggested that i can run a nozzle to the inlet of the turbo to help the turbo's efficiency.
 
what exactly is this E85 stuff everyone talks about? CT for some reason missed the bulletin cause there are only 2 fukn stations in the whole state and their both an hour away smh. of course u cross over the line in NY and their everywhere smh. I plan on tuning my Mustang to it and simply buying a 55 gallon drum or two and putting in my garage. my car is already tuned to E85 with the old combo so I have the supporting fuel system to do it.

but otherwise it will be on pump gas/meth but the meth isn't being used as fuel just insurance. I guess thats the beauty of the V8 and modern technology is one can run pump gas only and make what others make on E85 in a different application. I jus can't imagine the gas mileage tho. it takes 35 minutes to even get anywhere around here. at that rate my tank wud be half empty by the time I got anywhere to cruise.

I guess its a no brainer if the stations are close and the cost is low tho but not for every day cruising. 30% less MPG is just too steep imo. but then again who drives their TR every day other then Bison....:D

Ethanol based fuel will always make more power than 93 octane. You're burning more fuel. Plain and simple. More btu's more power

TTT any updates on this. Im finally getting back into things and talking with a guy about e85 who has a supercharged camaro in the 8s he's mentioned people talking about e85 causing corrosion on seals and such. I would think by now its been used enough to get genuine feedback on people running it for years and if they've had any issues with it.
