Rebuild Time

Gonna be sending my car off for a little rebuild. Got a few questions for the guys who've been there and done that. Should I go roller cam? Should I go ahead and port the heads? Not looking at breaking the bank, just curious if there are any other things I should look at. Not a racer but the car may see the track a few times. Give my your 2 cents please.

Keep your heads, and buy a stock bare set to have them ported. They're cheap. $100/pair brand new. I say yes for the roller cam too. Champion can do the heads, and so can Weber. By me there's some local guys that can do them too. How many miles are on the motor? I ran a 10.99 on mine with a stock unopened motor, and I know others have gone as fast as at least 10.80. If the motor is still strong you can go pretty fast with it.

I went 11.34 with unopened motor years ago before we had all this new fancy stuff. Simple mods and a good TT chip will net good results without pushing the head limits.

53k on the car but I put the heavy duty valve springs on and it later developed a lifter tick. Changed the oil and found all these pretty little sparkly metal flakes in it..... Talked to a shop about pulling the motor and he mentioned changing the bearings and cleaning everything up, but kinda wondering if I should just freshen it up while it's out.

If you go roller cam you no longer have to worry about wiping the cam due to lack of zddp

Pull the pan and check a rod and main bearing. That will tell the future of what you need to do.

The actual company that had them is called Central Jersey Motor Parts. They are not listed on their site anymore, and do not show up in a search. Grrr!

Go with a roller cam.
Screw that flat tappet BS

the rest is up to you and your goals/preference and experience with these cars.

Dave, Central Jersey hasn't had the bare or complete heads for several years. You can however still find a set on ebay once and a while.
No reason to do anything but a roller now days period.

Comp Cams retainers & keepers
Beehive springs set-up for a 210/215 roller cam from Fullthrottle speed
Looking for $850 plus shipping.
Thanks,
JB
