Rear seat brace question

Is installing the rear seat brace worth the expense even if the car is not really pushed hard? I have a hard top 86 and was wondering if I should add or pass on the brace prior to a trunk liner install.

I think so, it really helps stiffen up the body, stops that squirrely feeling in the rear end when you do get on it some,

I made mine out of some flat stock from homedepot cost me $15

I think it's definitely worth it. they're not very expensive and are a good way of reducing body flex which causes the roof pillar at the rear of the doors to crack. I've installed mine way back in the 90's and am not running in the 9's and I never got a crack in my roof pillars, ever.

Built my own with conduit from Lowes...took a few days only cause i am slow. More solid feel

Cost around $75 from Kirban. Like the ideas other have but I do want a clean look even though once covered I will never see them again.

This is the one I have…phpThumb_generated_thumbnailjpg.jpeg (y)

...available at Gbodyparts.com ($149.95). It's more expensive but you get what you pay for.

Questions:
Regarding conduit, what kind? Is flat stock steel was used would it not flex vs. tubular?

Agreed - Installed this couple years ago with missing body bushings and made a huge difference with squeaks and rattles.
Did you weld, bolt, or rivet it in? I am going to do the same thing this year. And, is it true that the suspension must have the weight of the car on it during installation?

Mine is bolted in. My car was on the ground when I installed it but I don't think it makes any difference if it is or not. I also added the missing "GNX" bushing.

Mine is also bolted in, but I think I had my car leveled on 4 jack stands when installed.

Kirban 2 cents worth

it is well worth the money as several have said. By the time you screw around buying tube pipe and having a press to flatten the ends and figuring out how to put a slotted hole in 2 of the bars and powder coat them simply buy the ones we sell that are all exact. You bolt them in....we also sell the other one that resembles the GNX one which is more money either way you will feel the difference even with a hardtop car...I have it in my car....

of all the braces this is the one that makes the biggest difference....in our cars.....the others up front work great too but this one is the main one....

Well worth doing the braces, you won't regret it. Whether you buy them or make your own, just do it. (y)
