I'm thinking of getting one and using it for some dune riding and also mounting in or on the car.

  • which go pro did you get?
  • how much was it?
  • are you happy with it?
thx

I have a hero2. I have had it for probably 4 years? Paid 199 for it at the time. I really like it, I use it mostly for motocross racing. I have used it for coaching hockey also. Stuck it behind the glass for the goalie to see what he is doing as well as the whole team. Works good not much of a bubble effect but in poor lighting it is not as crisp.

I have a Hero 3+. When I first got it, my wife was getting into SCUBA diving and I wanted to see what she was seeing. I ended up also getting into diving. So, now I use the camera to show family and friends our dives.

I've also used it for time-lapse and some car shots.

It's a clever little camera. From what I understand, the newest version doesn't need a case to be waterproof.

It's not good for far away shots, unless it's a panoramic. The built in microphone is almost useless, unless you're yelling into it. You just need to understand it's capabilities. Here's a quick video I took last summer, in the High Sierras.

I just got a go pro hero 3 silver for $239.00 ......going to mount it to my helmet and get some video of ripping sand dunes in a couple weeks......thanks for the help in deciding what to get.

Hero 4 silver with built in rear screen. Got a large bundle with extra batteries and mounts on Amazon for $500 at the time. Video quality is good, however if you mount it outside the car all it seems to pick up is wind noise. Only issue I've had is while using the app the wifi has dropped out on a few occasions.

Here is my first go pro video. Reading the instructions they said to shoot at 960 for high action, so that's what I did. The phone APP works good for playback. I'm surprised at the minimal wind noise. pretty happy with it.

Video note:

Shortly after this video , the stator on my quad quit and I had long walk to camp.

I mount mine under my visor, I like the view it gives plus I don't seem to feel it so much. In dark conditions it does not look as good the visor blocks the light and makes the video darker than it should be.

Up in the High Eastern Sierras this week. While the girls were still sleeping, I grabbed the Gopro and Kayaked around the lake.

Mike, I need your life. Between the car and skydiving and surfing and camping and traveling around the country to car places when exactly do you, you know work?:)

It's EZ. You just have to balance both and push yourself to not be a lazy ass. I'll bet I've taken hundreds of calls for bumper fillers while wearing a parachute, wet suit or at the drag strip, Bonneville, etc.

I have an office at the shop. I can't handle it for more than a few hours at a time or the walls start to close in on me.

Here's another Gopro from our lunch spot yesterday, just above 8000 feet.:)

Let's see some more Gopro. I dig this thread.:)

Oh yea! I also turn wrenches on some land speed cars every year at Bonneville.
Here's one of them. it's a 640 CI BBC roadster that has done 300 + mph.

Here it is throwing the rods out the side of the block at about 280 mph.
Watch for the oil and coolant out the back in top gear.

I have a GP 2, love it.

My friend RJ Reynolds making a pass in my car, his wasn't running right that day.

His helmet mounted GP.

One of my runs from inside the car, my GP mounted to the passenger window.

You get it!

If you do something cool and don't record it, it's almost as if it didn't happen. Good or bad, you can never go back to that point in time.
