What should I look out for or be concerned with?

Going to look at and test drive a 1987 GN with a reported/CarFax 74K miles this week. What issues other than the obvious should I be aware of or concerned with during the process? Gonna be a DD but I drive less than 2K miles a year and pushing 53yrs of age do not abuse my cars.

I just want to be prepared.

Thanks in advance for any help.

I spoke with the dealership listed on the vehicles service history and the tech who actually worked on this specific vehicle and he suggested that I just let this one pass.

Might go do a drive and get some experience. Much easier to get a good look at a car when you are near as excited about buying it.

Do you have a link? Someone might have some more history on it.

I have decided to get out Saturday and atleast go look at the car. I spoke with the dealership today about concerns or issues with the vehicle and was told it may need a turbo because it has "slow spool up" but is a good runner. I immediately thought "you wanna know about slow spool drive a 4 banger with a T66! LOL

One last thing...who is the Houston owner who said he may be able to go with me and bring his ScanMaster? I cannot locate the post/conversation.

I received Kirban's Buying Guide/DVD/Diagnostic Error Code card today, the DVD is about to start so...

The one you looking at from dealership:
wrong exhaust
headliner shot
seats look wavy
sunroof-usually leaks
horrible looking hood
wrong wheels
looks outdated=at least new injectors, new valve springs, injector harness, etc. $$$$ + probably hotwire, pump and other updated stuff

Just trying to point out things that I see wrong with it.

Could say what your thoughts were after seeing it? Was thinking of looking at it. Wanting another project, but not a total rebuild.

I think the hood sucks but for 14 K it's not that bad. The body and interior look pretty clean but under the hood is a different story. Who shows a engine bay that looks like that? And slow spooling turbo could be a lot of things not just the turbo. And Ross is right not many left at this price, most are 20K + nowadays. Also check the carfax, this car may be 174K on mileage.

Thanks guys! I decided to pass on that particular GN and a G8 GT. The way I look at life is I work hard, life is short, I do not like regrets, I am not married and have no children so MY money is truly MY money!

Went today and laid eyes on it if anyone interested. Well......
All weather striping is shot
At least two repaints
Rust in both doors and left quarter
Extra wiring under hood and extra battery cables
Stress cracks in roof by drivers door, also rusted
Wiring under dash hanging.
Never heard it run because battery was disconnected.

Just thaught Id save someone the time in case they were to go down. It might run great, but would need alot of work to be right

Everyone is looking for a bargain. $$ adds up quick with these cars.
Someday people will realize what a no brainer it would a been to buy your car, If I was in the market I'd be all over it lots of value there.

If it is at Success i believe its been there for at least 2 yrs. Needs a lot of work
