Replacing injectors and FPR

image.jpeg
I am looking for any advice on getting original injectors out of intake

I've read about screwdriver pry up on rail, nervous to put that kind of strain on rail

I've read open end box wrench, I'm having trouble getting any good leverage

I am trying to remove entire assembly with injectors still on rail

I have unbolted the rail, removed ignition module, cables, etc

Having hell of a time lifting it out, I've wd40'd

Hoping that will help

Any other advice

Here's a couple of picks on bits I've seen others question like the electric connection to harness

Thanks
Joel

Little clips hold injectors to the rail. You can unplug the injector connections, unbolt the rail, pull the clips and lift off the rail. It will probably be stuck on the injectors but it should pop off. The injectors are probably stuck pretty good to the manifold bosses. Your replacing them anyway so have at them with whatever you can get to wedge them up.

I used a six inch socket extension with a rag wrapped around it. Pulled up on the rail and it came out easy. Did it on driver side then passenger side. Just remember to undo all the bolts, coil pack bracket, fuel pressure regulator and fuel return line on passenger side [emoji28]

I didn't even need to take off the EGR

Thank you Mak

Trying to get to track for Wednesday evening

Got them out
Soaked them in Wd40
Then used pry bar on injector by injector up and down as I went
Popped off egr plastic cover and loosened the plastic part the EGR hoses went into in order to get a little more room.
Also removed bolt on passenger side holding down vacuum lines.
Was able to use my hands to pop the injectors out of the rail while on the bench.
Car is back together with known clean and good flowing stock injectors.
She's running completely knock free now on 15lbs of boost.
I'm very happy.
Thanks all for this post.
Joel

Runs good and clean, 15psi no knock. Life is good.(y)

Where you experiencing knock before the injector install & if so how much? Also was this the only change you made to get to knock free status? Thanks for the detailed steps thru the process of replacing the injectors, make me feel like I can tackle this job as mine are the original ones.

Hi rules
My car was knock free at about 12lbs with racetronics pump, Hotwire, fresh plugs, FPR with 43lbs line off and 93 TT chip

I went to 15lbs and had knock around 2-7, always got off pedal when I saw knock

Purchased original set of injectors off a guy on board who proclaimed the injectors to be in excellent shape

I sent them to Leeper who flow tested and rebuilt so I would be certain of condition

He was a bit surprised at how well they flowed, another example that it is safe to do business with the guys and gals on this site

Installed the cleaned original issue injectors and out my originals on the shelf

She is now running excellent, clean and super strong!

I'm going for what I call a "stock like tune". I lost my cat when my muffler rotted and seemed like logical thing to do(I kept the cat in my shed).

There is a fine line between keeping stock and not hurting the car

I could not get knock free when totally stock due to fuel pump just not having enough stump

Hope all this helps

Night and day with the known clean injectors

Joel
