Engine light on after installing Dakota Digital dash

Hey Everyone
I just finished installing the dash and it looks great! The only issue I am having is the car now has the engine light on..Has anyone had this problem after installing the dash? The light wasnt on before and I dont think its a coincidence all of a sudden so I am assuming its something to do with all the work I did with installing it..Anyone know of a fix or maybe something I left out that could be causing the issue?

I would probably start by getting what code is set that is turning the light on.

I have this same problem with a dash from another vendor. I have no codes ,one day will fiqure it out

See what the code is, then disconnect the orange wire at the battery, see if the code comes back.

Ok I just checked the code and its code 15 (coolant temp low) It reads normal on my DD but when I look at the scanmaster the temp reading is -39! The scanmaster is reading RPM, IAC, TPS, etc so the computer is getting info..I am assuming the sender for the DD isnt compatible? Any ideas?

So I am guessing I need to use both the stock temp sender and find another spot for the DD sender? When I installed it, I removed the stock sender leaving the old harness hanging like I did with the oil sender wire...Im guessing I have to either reinstall the old temp sender and reconnect it finding a additional spot for the DD sender OR can I cut off the stock sender wire connection and splice it onto the dakota sender wires? Do you guys think that would work or being its a different type sender I will still get a false reading on my scanmaster

You have to use both sensors. The stock one is for the computer the other sensor is for the gauge. Put the original sensor back to it's original spot and put the gauge sensor in place of the idiot light sensor which is mounted in front of the intake manifold.

I didnt realize there were two sensors! Anyway, Got it done and engine light is gone! Thanks alot, I appreciate the info!

So did you run a wire from your temp gauge straight to the temp sender on the front and leave the stock wire unhooked

No
I pulled the original temp sensor for the computer out and used that port for the dakota sender by mistake..I did not realize that there was another port for the dummy light that needed to be used..So I re-installed the original temp sender in its correct port so that the computer can read temperature again and used the dummy light port for the Dakota sender..Everything is fine now

Oh lord, going to have to ask around about that. Understand what you are saying but don't know how to do it. Thanks

No, I have a gnx replica. Ok dash, just trying to understand why my check engine light is on all the time. It's something simple that I haven't come across yet.
