My LS Swap 6.0/4l80e Twin turbo

Hydroboost is pieced together and is about 1/4 the price as most kits. There are tons of threads with part numbers. Kirbans sells hard lines as well as the complete kit.

Sorry, but no real updates. The El Paso Heat is getting to be too much in my garage. I have cooled it down a bit but I just cant seem to find the motivation to work in 100+ degrees!

Damn brother this is one cool project. Did a lot of reading about LS motors last night and realized how awesome the motors are and how abundant they are and how you can interchange parts from like 6.0L to 4.8L block. I believe I read that the heads from the 6.0 can be used on the 4.8L. I really wish I would've checked out the LS build section because dropping in total around $18k on rebuilding my 109 block and my 200 4R. Maybe $18k wouldn't have been enough to do an LS swap, since I'm dumb and the majority of work I would have had to paid for, but I had another $10k in reserves that would have gotten the job complete. Now I'm stuck with 3800lbs car that if I try and push it into the low 10 it will probably split the block in half.
Now the only way I will be able to build a turbo 3800 or LS is to sign my GN over to wife.

And this is the reason I went to a LS Swap. I got tired of dropping money all the time. I sold all my V-6 stuff and paid for about 90% of this swap. Heads a CNC LS3 heads and paid $1200, sold the GN heads for $1250. Headers were $500, sold V-6 for headers $1000. It was way cheaper to swap!

Yes I know its suppose to have a V-6 BUT my car is a Hot Air Car that had a roll bar and other stuff done to it, so it wasn't too bad making the decision to do the swap! I do miss the V-6.......UNTIL I need to buy something for it!!!

Im buying a nice 86 regal roller .. and thinking about LS turbo swap.. I will have to pay for most mechanical fab work and engine building.. My question is: Should I just buy a swap car or is it A LOT cheaper to have it/ build one?

Probably cheaper to buy an LS powered Regal, but always have to worry about how badly the car has been abused. Tough call. Knowing what I know now, I would've definitely went with an LS swap. You could also try to do a 3800 series II/III swap. You'd need aftermarket rods and pistons, stock crank can handle at least 800whp.

I personally wanted to build it myself as I like to do it myself. Would it be cheaper to buy one? Probably, but as stated before, you really never know what has been or has not been done to it.

Damn I love this project!! LS engines are so easy to find and inexpensive I may just go this route one day.

Nice attention to detail! Definitely one of my favorite build threads (i love pictures(y)) I may have missed it but, was there some issue with the fitment of the sheetmetal intake? also is you MAP sensor located in the cabin?

thanks for documenting the build! it really helps people out by showing what you went through and how some parts may work on paper but not-so-much in real life....

No issue with the sheet metal intake, just wanted to upgrade to the holley high rise. Yes the map is under the dash. I have a multi port vacuum block that gives readings to the map, alky, gauge and hobbs switch to kick the pump up to "race" mode on the Weldon Fuel Pump controller at 4lbs of boost. The little box to the left of the battery. I also have a rotary switch in the console that allows me to control the speed of the pump during normal driving, if needed.

LS Stuff is out there! Just picked this stuff up for $250. Its an Iron Block 5.3 and a 4L80e. Yes they need to be gone through, but not a bad price!

Nice snag! (y)
Best I've found on the 80e cores about $300-400.
The 5.3's are in the $250-500 range, depending on the accessories, mileage.

This is awesome, looking around here in my hood the best deal I'm finding is $300 a piece for engine and transmission. Although I found an ecotec3 4.3L v6 with engine controller and harness for sale out of a 2014 truck for $1000. That would be a nice setup in a GN, you'd have to figure out how to use the drive by wire and fabricate lots of stuff. Once the 4.3L and 5.3L ecotec 3 blocks start becoming available I wonder if people will try to use those.

Damn straight that is a great score Robert, well done! If I go this route the first priority will be going through the engine and building it for boost and then the transmission. The second step would be deciding upon what vehicle to drop it into that would have room for a turbo system beit single or double turbo.

Robt, what radiator is that? I'm about to add 1 w/ the stock core support. I've been looking at the Holley rads, but they are rt side upper and lower hoses. My turbo is there.
Your build is lookin goood!!
