On Center Build questions

Awesome that's what I thought just double checking. I'm sure I will be posting more questions and I appreciate your guys responses Thanks Neil and everyone else

so I'm going to be tasking y block in to JMS racing engines in El monte in a couple weeks to have them assemble the short block . is there any specifics I need to let them know ? I will be bringing them the block ,crank, rods, pistons and rings, the main bearings and cam bearings . on other good news I got sponsored by Comp Turbosit is a 40% sponsorship . they are sending me there 6767 triple BB with a .63 A/R turbine housing . this turbo would have normally cost me $2400 but they took care of me at 1k . super stoked

Well I dropped the block off at the machine shop to get the short block assembled. They are going to write down all the clearances . One question what kind of Bob weight should I tell them to balance it at ? 50%?36%?

I'd have them weigh out the parts and then set up the crank on the balancer and see where you're at. There is no correct answer to your question essentially anything between 36.6% and 50 will work. I'd base my decision on what balance percentage will require the least material added or subtracted from the crankshaft.

So I should be getting my block out this coming up week . I have collected acouple more parts . A set of felpro 1026 head gaskets , a MSD distributor I'm thinking about using , a ATI Balancer , and a flex plate. I also was given the rest of the parts for my gear drive setup minus the inserts that would attach the gear drive bracket to the cam oil gallery. I am have the shop set up the gear drive so I can go gear drive or chain depending on my cam selection ect. I am still working on what I'm going to do for my intake manifold. I have a stock non ported intake . I have been researching using it and porting and sloting it to make it work unless I find a manifold that isn't going to cost a bunch . Attached are some pictures of the parts I have gotten .

Does anyone know where I can get the intake flanges to build my own intake manifold ?

Why would you want to build your own intake when you can buy one done?

FYI I think I have an ATI 3-bolt crank mandrel with pullies and spacers if you need them

Good luck

I did pick up a ati balancer it is missing the pulley though . I do actually need a spacer to shim out the balancer . Here is a picture of the balancer I have . IMG_4726.JPGIMG_4727.JPG. On the intake I have been looking and haven't found one . I do have a stock unported manifold that I could make work but I would like to have a sheet metal one on it . If I can get the intake flanges I would like to at least try and make one .

Fabricating your own manifold is a huge project even for a master welder / fabricator. Don Wang decided to build his own manifold about 4 years ago and never got it finished and he's got all the skills necessary. I'd go ahead and match port the stock intake, slot the bolt holes etc. then keep your eyes peeled for a sheetmetal intake for sale.

Bought some more parts today . The spacers for the crank , and cam .also the ARP head studs Still looking for a intake for 1k or under . TA does have a champion on the shelf that if I can't find one might ended up grabbing it .

Also started thinking about my oiling situation. This is the pump I'm going to be runing the only thing that's weird I only have a -12 inlet and a -10 out of my pump . I've been reading about these pumps and everyone else seems to have a bypass line ? Have any of you guys seen this style before ?

I wouldnt worry about a cooler. That doesnt look like a White Racing. It doesnt look like it has any kind of bypass. It should still have the spring set up for bypass. Maybe someone else can identify it with more pics. The DLS has the lines coming from the bottom rather than the side, but I think it still has a bypass line.

Here is acouple more pics . There is a alllen bolt that is placed directly at the end of the spring and piston assembly.

It has a bypass, so you should be good. You might have to mess around with springs to get proper high rpm oil pressure. 70psi is all that is needed.

Hopefully I'll get my block this week out the shop . I bolted up the intake manifold to the heads to get a idea of how much material I am going to have to remove to align the ports . It's not to bad but I am going to wait till I get them bolted on the block before I start grinding . O yea and the champion on center intake I received had a chunk machined out of the water port right where then gasket seals it from leaking water in to the motor . So I still have to fix that when I start porting it :-(
