Tunning with an SD or a 6.1 (Chip).

6.1 is simpler/easier and will get you close enough. Eric even suggested I work w the 5.7 chip longer. I have the car running good on it too. I like he doesnt just try selling you the most expensive setup either. I however pulled the trigger on a SD2 cause I want to learn how to tune/read VE and spark tables.

Best ET w 5.7 TTchip was 11.3@122mph and 1.9 60'. Keep in mind that was only my 5th pass in my life. Kept shaving .2 sec off ea pass just learning how long to burn out, what boost to launch with and etc. That also wasn't w a built rear end, transbrake or 2step. Next yr I'll utilize all of that w my SD2 and see what I get...track experience plays a huge role though also

If you have a PL and wideband is makes no sense to go 6.1. Both chips come with a base map..a calculated guess if you will. Why not get the chip that let's you fully tune your car. It's not hard to learn if you're willing to spend some time with it. I didn't really need to mess with my SD2 at WOT or cruising but it's nice to get the car from an 80% decent tune to a 95% tune all around. Can't do that with a 6.1 on your own.

Agreed. !! I don't even race anymore but still run the SD2 and love the extra tuning ability. My wot map was close and didn't need but a little tweak. What I play with is the cruise map so correction is nill. With a little practice it's actually fun

It may not make sense to some folks, However I don't know anyone who knows more about these cars then Richard Clark. With that said going with his advice .

So huge injectors and cam go w an SD2 chip. Now w #80 injectors and 214/214 cam would you go w a 6.1 chip or Extender Extreme chip?
either one. they both work well.

Since you went with SD2, go ahead and download tunerproRT software and locate the .xdf definition file for SD2. It's much easier and much more convenient using tunerproRT to edit the SD2 BIN files than it is to use the powerlogger. The definition file for SD2 is located on the turbotweak support board and it's also posted around here in a few places too.

I think if you log into the racetronix support board you will find the fuel injector offset data that you need to get your injector offset calibration setup to precisely match your injectors. that's where you want to get started. Having the injector offset right in the beginning is very helpful later on. Most common turbo buick injectors are characterized on that support board.

If you go SD2 you will
Never need another chip again . If you have the supporting equipment to run the sd2 I would definitely go that route . Any future changes u do you can go and change the settings with sd2 . Plus you get to ditch the MAF which in it self is a giant plus . I'm running E85 with the SD2 chip and have it set up to change the tune per ethanol content. Just my 2 cents . Good luck whichever way go

I think you mean TunerPro and not TunerPro RT.

I have the 6.1 and am pushing it way past what it was burned for. Looking forward to moving to SD2 to gain some flexibility in my tune. I wish I had bought SD2 to start with although I cant fault the 6.1. Its been easy, reliable and surprisingly good at correcting for bad baselines etc. Someday I hope to see fuel pressure correction / compensation added to Erics chips like xfi. I eventually see myself going xfi it just isnt in the budget right now

Thanks! We're going to best friends now forever! Lol! Seriously though appreciate you giving me direction and heads up w going to SD2.

Can't speak for Richard Clark's knowledge of tuning chips but I would agree he know's a lot about the car itself. I think the people that shy away from this type of technology are the people who don't understand it so simple is better. You can argue both way's I guess.

This Steve, Prasads buddy? How else can I go about getting the fuel injector offset data to calibrate
Siemens 80# LB. High Impedance Fuel Injectors DEKA EV1
I cant see anything on the racetronix forum, they allow me to sign in but nothing is viewable... Must be cause they know I own a turbo buick. He made it clear that he didnt want to support those w turbobuicks anymore due to some past history...idk, its what he told me over the phone earlier this yr.

Lol well it's been a few weeks since I logged in on that site but I recall logging in and seeing nothing and then clicking around until I found the forum. The injector data is in the support forum posted as stickies

Very unprofessional business - RACETRONIX This is what they said and this is why I am not allowed to view any info on their forums! Total bull! Sounds like full throttle will have to share that info w me...

Steve at FTS just said the fuel injector offset data will be all done by Eric @ TT for the SD2. Shouldn't have to worry about setting that up then when I get started.

It will be in the ball park. I never use published injector offset data. I generate my own on the car under actual running conditions with the Buick ECM.

So there is no standard injector offset data to a particular injector. Wether the data is from you or from Racetronix, its just data put together from past experience that will get you close. Since every car is different tuning that data will be required.
