T-Type or Regal Limited w/ Turbo

I'm new here, so apologies if this is a silly question. If you've seen my other thread, I'm trying to start my father's 1987 Buick Regal T-Type.

While digging around for information I came across the following stats that state that there were no T-Types built in 1987.

Maybe my dad just said that, because T-Type rolls off the tongue a little easier than "Limited with Turbo."

Is there a way to definitively tell EXACTLY which ones were Turbo-T's, T-Types, Limited w/ Turbo, and just w/ Turbo? Something in the VIN? (I know it's not a GN or GNX of course.)

I bet he kept the window sticker somewhere, so maybe that will help if I can find it.

I'm going off memory so maybe not right but in 87 the T package was code Y56, a turbo t was code WE4, no idea what code a limited had. These codes will be in the label on the underside of the trunk lid.
Hope that helps.

Y-56 is correct for "T" package. M-47 is limited. K-47 is T-Type pre-87. WE-2 Grand National. WE-4 Turbo T.

Just because it had a T package didn't mean it had a turbo. I think all non-GN Regals with a turbo and T package were Turbo T's, since you could have a V8 Regal T. To me, the WE4 was an appearance package for a Turbo T.

What exactly is a Turbo T? I have an 1987 Buick Regal with options Y56 (T Package) and LC2(Turbo 3.8). Nowhere is there any mention on the paperwork does GM use the term "Turbo T" nor on the car itself. Only the red T on the fenders and on the steering wheel. No rear spoiler either. So the correct label for my car is a Regal like the rear fenders say?

Gm only used the term "Turbo T" with the WE-4 in it's official advertisement and it's a well proven fact. All other LC-2 Regal's are either base Regals with turbo or Limited with turbo. Most people just call it a "T" or turbo Regal. It's your car call it what you want. Regal + T package + LC-2 = Turbo T ;).

kirban 2 cents worth on the WE4 that was a model that only came in black with black bumpers promoted by Buick as being lite weight and quicker than a GN their reason was it allowed Buick to sell more loaded GNs which provided bigger profit margins for Buick.

Turbo-T was the 87s with the turbo engine whether you call it a simple Regal or a Turbo-T its the same as they did make V8s that had the same suspension to cut insurance costs could even have the black out package and the T emblem and same steering wheel.

Buick did several "goofy" things back then in my opinion to make things confusing in years to come.....

Only the last 10,000 Grand nationals are titled as Grand Nationals prior to that titled as a Regal Grand National as an option. Pontiac did this back int he day early GTOs were titled as Lemans GTO was an option under that heading...until around 1967 before GTO had its own wording on a title...I am going by memory on what year Pontiac did the title switching I used to know all this stuff years ago

bottom line is no matter what you refer to your turbo powered Regal as its the model with the bucks...

The catch phrase GM used was it's faster and cheaper than a Grand National which was true with the aluminum brake drums, bumper reinforcements, and wheels.

Spoilers were an dealer add on T-43 for base Regals. They came with options WE-2, WE-4, and WH-1 (84-86 T-Types). Maybe D-84 designers series (87) not a 100% sure on that one. I had mine installed when I had it painted.

kirban 2 cents first on the SPID label posted that car has VD6 and VD7 for aluminum bumper supports which is a great feature over the heavy steel ones. CF5 is the astro roof option....

On the photos above of the white back end....not sure if you did it by design but one small technical thing is not exactly correct. Can you guess what I am referring to?

Again not picking your car apart only pointing out something that is not quite exactly as it was original. Actually it is a fairly common mistake people make.

I moved the emblems down a bit after I noticed them to high if that's what your referring to boss man.

My spid als0 has VD6 and VD7. The trunk is missing the emblem surrounding the keylock. Brad

Can anyone tell me any info on my car here is the trunk tag.Screenshot_20170120-000956.png 20151104_172005.jpg

It has chrome mirrors which I have been told not a lot came that way. Manual doors, Windows, chairs , no tilt , no cruise. I think the only option is ttops.

D-35 (man) D-68 (remote) were the sport mirrors. You have the cheaper chrome ones. I don't have a code for those but have seen then on lower option cars before. It would help if the pic wasn't sideways. It's hard to read w/o breaking my neck first :D.

I didn't know the spoiler came on anything but the GN. My 87 limited didn't have one, my we-4 didn't have one, my buddies D-84 does not have one and I don't know if anyone's "T" with a factory spoiler?

Error in my notes on the WE-4. It was front spoiler in the breakdown of the codes. I can't find the breakdown info on the WH-1 at the moment. I didn't say T's/limited came with spoilers unless it's added by the dealership. I said maybe on the D-84 I wasn't sure.
