ALTERNATOR ISSUE?

Today, was driving around just fine and then went to hit started spittin and poppin and i scrolled thru the scan master and noticed my voltage was at 10.0 and dropping rapidly, more rapid than normal with an alternator that goes out. The retard degrees also showed 13.5......wondering if thats related? I may be over thinking that it could just simply be an alternator (even tho this one is 4 months old) but any other possible ideas? Fusible link maybe? Crazy how quick it happened

Also now...my lil ol knock gauge is pegged dimly on the last red led...but scan master shows nothing....

Does you alternator idiot light come on when you first turn the key on before starting? If not you may have a bad connection to the dash somewhere. The alternator needs the lamp to work properly.

Test the alternator to see if it's putting out proper voltage.
Check the ground wires, make sure they are tight also.

Checked alternator got a good 14.3v decided givin the ol dash board a smack and the volts light flickered even tho it was coming on with KOEOFF and she started charging again and all is good...possibly a loose connection or just the bulb and more than likely i was overthinking cuz nothing can actually be as they seem with these cars but in this case it was straight forward. My knock gauge even returned to normal functionality, thank you all for the help just figured id repost with a follow up of my findings

If the knock gauge works anything like Casper's audible knock detector, and I believe it does, then it also will behave strangely when there are voltage issues.

Don't sweat it. Things return to normal when voltage is correct.

Had the same issue. The circuit board may not be making contact with the connectors on the back side of the instrument cluster, or the bulb that is in "charge" (no pun intended) of exciting the alternator is corroded or no longer working properly. Caspers sells the circuit board band to replace and it has the charging bypass resistor added to keep this from happening in the future.

My instrument cluster is all VDO gnx knock offs, i replaced the bulb sometime ago...by replace i mean i swapped with the security bulb lol. Ill get a new bulb and replace it so.eti.e here in the next day or 5 provided whenever i get a day off

You are wasting your time dealing with the stock charge bulb setup. When it goes open again the alternator will stop charging and the bulb won't light up to let you know. You can add a single wire to fix this issue. See this post for what to do:
