I'm putting new valvesprings in my 86 TR, and when I put in the air holds @ ~100PSI, I can hear/feel a good amount of pressure leaking past the exhaust valve. Is this normal?

Time for a valve job?

Are you sure the air is leaking at the valve??

The leak you hear is probably air escaping through the ring gaps into the crankcase. This is normal!:)

I'm in the middle of doing my valvesprings too.
I noticed the same thing. Good to hear it is common.
Boy that passenger side is bitch. Especially the back couple of springs. Hopefully the driver side will be easier.

Well , if there all hissing about the same , I would say it is ok....
but if one cyl. is doing it more than the others, you may want to look into it deeper........

It's definately coming through the exhaust valve, It's cylinder #1, and I can feel the air coming out of the up-pipe, as I have the turbo off too...

Screw it, I should just pull the heads and get 'em done anyway...

how much extra work could pulling the heads be? hehe

:D

THe car has 150+ k on the engine, was rebuilt before I got it, a port match and 3 angle couldn't hurt..
