Hello fellow GN enthusists!

I am the original and once proud owner of an 87 GN with about 100k miles of adult driven - mostly highway miles.

This car has been essentially my daily driver since I bought it brand new in '87.

It is now "tired" and I am considering either:

Keeping it and having it restored back to either stock or mild performance...

Or selling it to someone that will continue to love it as I do.

Right now I am leaning towards researching what it would take to restore it back to a reliable and fun car.

The car essentially runs OK; I had some trouble with some mechanical and electrical systems (to be expected from a car that is now 16 years old) and is no longer a car that I can rely upon for every day commuting...<sigh>.

Does anyone know of and can recommend a GN restoration specialist in the NYC vicinity or reasonably close that I might contract to do the restoration for me...(as I have no time to do it myself and would like to complete it in my lifetime!).

I will also invite and entertain reasonable offers to purchase my baby.
(The car has never been in an accident and the engine has never been modified.)

Thanks for your help.

Ken

AH the old do I sell or Keep it..

Investing 5 or 6k would seem reasonable for maybe Body work/paint, motor rebuild, and some suspention
work.

The problem I see here is that you can't have the car in the shop to have all this stuff done & work bugs out of it. If you need it to go to work.
Once you do new componets other old items will soon follow.

So my vote would be sell it to someone who will restore it & has the time.
To be honest your car could fetch anyplace from 2k to 5k range
I would think depending a lot on condition
Just don't sell it to a person who will beat it to death & it ends up in Junk yard.

You best start with new commuter car all over again.
Maybe a supercharged regal GS from 98,99 to 2002
would bode well for a daily driver.

AS for shops, I think most are for performance mods.
Like Jack Cotten in Springfield mass, or eric in windsor ct.
There maybe a few in Jersy too.
I don't know if these guys to stock restos??

If you do consider selling it email me some photos & price.
Might make a good father & son project for us
as his first car. I know he lusts for mine :)

My thanks for your reply littlesixsteve.

I actually have the commuter aspect taken care of.

After a year of inconvenient mechanical breakdowns and the mounting cost to maintain and repair her...I was forced to buy an '03 Accord (V6...<of course> but the 240 HP Accord just isn't the same without over 300-400 lbs of torque as my GN has).

This gets me to and from work and quickly too if necessary. However, this has depleted my cash reserves so I am faced with my current dilemma as you pointed out...the old sell it or fix it...

I have contacted Jack Cotton via email and am waiting for a reply.

He is still over 2 hours away though.

I could leave the car, now that I don't need it for transportation.

Does anyone have any leads for Northern Jersey, Western Connecticut or Westchester County restoration specialists (I live in Westchester County, just north of NYC).

The car is actually in decent shape, but I would still want to do a frame up restoration, just for my own peace of mind.

I will consider your offer about selling to you for your son. Let me see how this pans out and what my finances allow me to afford.

Thanks again for your insightful reply.

fyi...if your car is in good shape body wise and runs decent...it will fetch far more than 2 to 5k dollars. Cars fitting that description routinely sell for 7-9k dollars from what I have been seeing lately on Ebay and this board. Being stock it would be towards the low end but don't give it away.
