Greetings, I have been in a discussion with a friend about the purpose of the sheet metal baffles that go almost all the way around the valve springs on 87 GN heads. What are they for and why did the GM Gods bother to put them on the stock heads?
they are dampeners , they dampen the spring preventing oscillation which can greatly extend a springs lifespan .
the 980 spring has an internal dampener
I thought they might be an external dampener. The other set of heads I have have an internal dampener. Thanks for the info. I got another set in the shop getting set up for a Comp hydraulic roller.
