Weatherstrip retainer

I'm in the process of completing the restoration of my 86 t type. Where the weatherstrip retainer screws on to the body of the car there was some kind of foam attached to it.

Is this special foam? I'm assuming it's used to keep water from getting behind the body and retainer. The b pillar and front drip rail molding used something similar to

I saw that too while refurbishing my ttop area. I replaced it with a similar thickness adhesive tape.

There was also some kind of foam tape on the back of the b pillar trim and the a pillar trim also
