Hey guys,

I just bought a near-stock 87 T with 70,000 original miles. Currently it has a flowmaster replacement muffler and cone K&N filter. Otherwise, it is all original. I am having my local shop do the following mods and tune-up items:

3 inch downpipe with high-flow cat
Street 93/94 octane chip
160 degree thermostat
Adjustable fuel regulator
How wire kit
New plugs & 8MM wires
New oxygen sensor
New PCV
Black MAF pipe

Does anyone have any other suggestions? I plan on keeping this car close to stock but definitely am open to ideas to increase performance and driveability.

Also, what 1/4 mile time should I expect?

Thanks,
Larry

As far as 1/4 times i think high 13's 13.7 would be doing good. As far as other mods the best one i can think of with a pretty much stock car would be some drag radials, and get a scan tool.

TurboShane,

Thanks for the response. What scan tool and drag radials would you recommend?

Larry

You will definately want to get a better fuel pump. If yours is stock and original you are asking for problems if you want to go fast and up the boost.

You can get a Walbro 340 pretty reasonably from many vendors. Do that and make sure your fuel delivery system is bullet proof.

Why not install some of that stuff yourself instead of having a shop do it? YOu can change the plug wires, pcv, and even the maf pipe with just basic tools. The wires and pcv don't even require anytools, except for pliers if there was a problem.

Most of the mods you listed are real easy normal mainence items, the hardest would be the DP.

You will save money, plus feel the pride of working on it yourself.

Plus when you do somethings yourself, then if you ever have problems with the car or if you get stranded, then you have a better idea how everything works, and you could probably even fix it yourself instead of having to call a towtruck.

DKREDT,

I will definitely look into the Walbro fuel pump. Thanks for the recommendation.

dyermullet,

Work is so busy now that I don't have time to do the work myself. I have a relationship with the local turbo Buick shop for years now, so my labor costs are real affordable. But I do agree that it makes sense to do whatever you can yourself.

Anyone else have any other input?

Thanks Larry

I wasn't trying to flame.

I enjoy doing all the work on mycar myself, also I know it is done right.

What color is the T? Do you have any pictures?

For a scan tool I am currently using turbolink V2.
I don't have a scanmaster, but some of my friends cars do. I like how turbolink can display all the information at one time, but you have the laptop off to the side so it is kinda hard to look at it and look at the road at the same time. Scanmaster can only display one value at a time, but you can put it on the dash in your line of sight and you can look at it like a normal gauge. Another thing is everytime I have someone in the car with me, I have to unplug the turbolink and put the computer in the backseat, so at that point I have no information. Most of the time if I am not tuning the car when I have turbolink running I am just looking at water temp, or seeing if the tcc is lockedup, things like that. I also check if I am getting O2cross counts. The chip I have in the car now, sometimes it won't come out of PE mode and I get crummy gas mileage.

Also get a aftermarket boost gauge. The factory indash gauge isn't accurate.

My car has basicly the same combo as your will. I have duel exhaust with flow crappers. I still have the stock downpipe, I am going to put on a 3"THDP with a dump this summer.

I was sapost to go to the track a few weekends ago, but we got rained out. So I don't have anytimes yet. The previous owner went 13.0 with a Lubrant race chip, 20lbs of boost and racegas. And it isn't even a posi.

I got the race chip with the car, I just havn't got to use it yet.

dyermullet,

I didn't take your thread as a flame at all. I think I will look into a scanmaster and a walbro fuel pump.

My car came with a race chip also and it has boost, oil and rpm gauges. Technically, the car is dark blue metallic (code 31) but is has hints of green. Kirban told me that this wasn't common but he has seen some like this before. The previous owner also put on some nice aftermarket wheels and gave me the stock wheels that are in excellent shape.

I'm not sure how to post a photo so any advice would help.

If you have them online you can just post the link to them. Otherwise you can email them to me. I have alot of space on my website, so I can put them on there if you want me to.

do our cars have their own private vendors? (i checked jegs n summit) where do you guy get your walbro 340s? (i seen that name in many sigs and threads) hehe :D

-nero-

thanks! :D

What part of jersey are you from?Try Racetronix for the W340 fuel pump and hotwire kit it's around $149.You might want to get the vavle springs changed.

Thanks for all the responses.

I definitely plan on ordering the Walbro fuel pump tomorrow. I am also thinking about some Nittos and a scanmaster. Does anyone know where to get a good price on two rear Nittos?

Back-N-Black - I live in Montgomery Township - 10 mintues away from Princeton.

fast eddie - What would you recommend if I get rid of the flowmaster? I am already putting in a 3" DP and a high-flow cat.

Also, does you guys recommend putting in a dump since I am doing the down-pipe?

Larry

TurboShane,

Thanks for the compliment on the car. I looked for a while before I bought this one.

progress1vebmx,

Can you give me an idea of how much the ATR exhaust will run? Also, will it work well with the 3" DP and high flow cat (and possible dump)?
