10" Convo Pro's

[Zero Tolerance]

Is anyone running 10" wide Centerline Convo Pro's on the rear?
What tires are you using?
I'm thinking of getting these rims and using 275-50-15's, but do not want to worry about clearance issues as my frame is not modded and I will not roll the fender lip.
Will this combo work? What BS, etc?
If not, I will go with the 8.5" rim.

The convo in a 10 in will not work with out frame notching. The 5 in bs will put you in the frame. I run these on my car with a hrame notch. See link below

Yes they can.I was talking about the readily available 5in bs 10 in wheel.

If I am already running 275-50's on stock TR rims, what overall effect will the rim size have, aside from getting the proper backspacing? Will the wider rim cause the tire to be wider where the tread patch is (does that mayke sense)?

Tire section width increases as rim width increases.

Could you have avoided notching the frame by going with custom backspacing? Maybe it wasn't a consideration in your case?

I am pretty sure a 4" or 4 1/2" BS will work on a 10" rim without knotching frame. I run 3 1/2" bs on 10's and they are a bit towards the outside for my tastes. I have to run about 6 PSI in the airbags to keep the fendor well lips from hitting the tires.

Are you running Convo Pro's? How much room do you have between the tires and the frames with the 3.5" backspace? What kind of tires?
Sorry for all of the questions. I tried calling Summit's tech line, they have no idea.

I'm not running convo's I have Cragar Dragstars. They are 10" rims with 3.5 BS. I have about 1.5-2" to the frame. n it's hard to tell exactly. Looks like I could go in an inch so that's why I think 4-4.5 BS would be perfect. That is with My 275x50x15 nittos and it's about the same with my 28x10.5x15 ET drags.

Looks like most people are running 15x4's. I'm not sure what tires I'm getting to mount on them. I think Steve Blake got some "very inexpensive" tires from Pep Boys to run in place of buying skinnies like Front Runners.

Yes I could have, but....... I had 2 reasons to do it the current way.

-I really didnt like the look of the 10in 4.5 bs wheel on other TRs. This is the commonly used Weld wheel. The slick looks like it belongs there and not on the "edge".This is what i could have to custom order in a Convo.
-I now have enough space to run the 28.5 x10.5 Phoenix slick used by many stage cars, If i shall ever need it when my offcenter S2 is done.

They are 205/75 r 15s. They look good on my car. In was trying to get the "rake" off the car with the tall slicks.I can send you full size pics if you wish.

I have to look at the tire size again on my car but I want to say 165's. I have never liked them since I got the car! I changed the back so might as well change the front! What brand and where to get? I can get anything the TireRack in the banner floating around here sells on the cheap. Thanks for the help!

I got mine from Tire Kingdom , dont know if you got those up there. They are Tempest brand. My bud used to work there and got me a good deal. Pep boys has a Cornell 205/70 that also looks very good.

I had 165 R 15s on my welds before. They are just too small in my opinion for our cars. They always looked like they were low on air. This was with a full weight GN. Now that the car is lots lighter it wouldnt be so bad, but still too small for me.

Couldn't agree more. 165's are ridiculous on our 3,700 # battleships.

I run 27x4.5 Goodyears on my strip only T. I like the diameter and the angle the car takes with the 28's on the rear. I'm sure they handle better, roll better, grow better, and transfer weight better than the silly "donuts" I see on so many cars...

The size Goodyear you mention sounds to be about perfect. My bud had the 28in tall Good year and it was stupid big! Ive contemplated full race fronts, the advantages are great. Better safer tire with a lot less weight.

Im still pullin street duty once in a while and plan to go to an 8 in Convo out back with a 275/60 DR so i can run the convos full time on the street. I currently run Kirban GNX style wheels with 255/50s 16s. And i might as well be driving on 2 bars of soap.
