I believe that a 275 will always rub on a stock GN rim. Unless you were to notch the frame and get aftermarket rims. I have some BFG drag radials on GN rims, they never rubbed but i really slowed down around corners on the way to the track. The ride almost felt like i was driving my 66 olds with bias plys. Terrible. I don't know about 265's though. I know some guys run 255's
The 50s will not fit on a stock GN rim without using spacers. 60s might fit but like chin_dude said you better slow down around corners.
I tried to put 275-50s on an 8 inch rim with a 4 inch backspace (stock GN rim has 4 inch backspace) and they rub the frame. I use a 3/8 inch spacer with slightly longer wheel studs and I'm fine now.
Slightly "off center", but my son's '85 MCSS is currently wearing Nitto 275-60x15 DR's on 7" Welds. There is a little more sidewall bulge than I'd like to see, but no fit-up problems at all. BS, I *believe* is 3.5"
I have 275/50 BFG Drags on my car. I am using 8's with a 4 1/8 back spacing. I don't have any problems with rubbing. I have plenty of room. Car looks good but unfortunately I don't have any pics.
I have used 275 50 and 275 60 BFG DR's. The 275 50 were used with stock rims when the car only had a filter and chip. The only time they rubbed was when I was loaded down with luggage and 3 people in the car going through the mountains. The 275 60 I have had no problem but they reside on Weld Drag lite 15X8 3.5 BS.
