My 3rd and 4th gear indicators on Direct Scan are lit all the time regardless of what gear the trans is in. Shortly after I bought DS and hooked it up I lost 2nd gear in the trans and had it rebuilt. Hooked DS up when I got it back and the indicators were still lit, so I don't think it's in the trans. The car is currently in winter storage, but I plan to do some work on it soon. I think I will remove the plug from the trans and see if it is still indicating the same. Has anyone else had this problem. How does the computer handle these inputs? Does it pull timing in 3rd or 4th?? Any help is appreciated. Where can I learn about the GM software??

The connector on the tranny may be unplugged. One of my cars has a TH350 and therefore has no electrical plug for gears. On DS it shows 3rd and 4th on all the time.

Some chips do pull timing in 3rd and 4th (mine does) and the boost is also scaled back for 3rd and 4th. So you might have less timing or boost than you should. It also may affect your torque converter lockup.

Eric,
In your case, with the chip you are running with the connector unplugged, does the computer recognize this as the trans is in 4th gear and thus pull timing back so many degrees?

if I remember right.when the connectors are open it shows on.when grounded shows off.probably just unpluged inside the pan

I should have clarified. The GN with the TH350 uses a FAST system, so in that case I don't have to worry about what gear it's in. My other GN is my chip development car that has gear based timing control. However, you are right that if the ecm thinks its in 4th, it would pull a certain amount of timing (if the chip is programmed for it).
