I ran last weekend, first time with 145-50-16 nitto Drag Radial,my 60' times were about 1.9,up from 1.7's with my regular slicks...car runs 12:70's....is this normal? i heated up the nittos pretty good...what are your experences with DR's?

i am running 275/6015 nittos and have pulled a 1.73 60 ft with a bone stock suspension. i'm pretty sure there is a little more in them with a little bit more boost. They are pretty touchy and sensative to track prep. I do a nice long burnout and throttle it in first gear to keep any wheel spin under control. I have had nights where the best i could pull was mid 1.8s.

1.8 60 ft.s were my best and very few of them.

I am giving up on them at the local track which has never heard of VHT.

Going with Hoosier QTP's and if I get a 1.7 I will be happy. :)

Nittos are great on the street however, no issues and good ride and handling qualities on both my cars. :)

275-60-15s 1.77 60ft's leaving at 1psi of boost with my TR. and a best of 1.43 on my big block car with traction bars.

I have the 275/50's on a full 8" wheel. I have run several 1.7's with a best of 1.70. I found that for my car the best is about 18 or 19 psi in the tires and a smaller burnout but use lots of wheel speed. I let the car shift to second, hold them a second, and then roll out. Very consistant using that method. I think high 1.6 is in there. May find out Friday.

if you spin them too much they will actually get slicker. Just do a good 3 sec burn and they should stick pretty hard.

My experience with Nittos is they suck! 1.9-2.0 short times. Ive tried short and long burnouts ans they still cant hold any boost. I have to leave off at vacuum pretyy much!

The thing I have found is that they are VERY sensitive to tire pressure. Less than 2 psi difference from "ideal" and they are a big cloud of smoke. Once they start to spin they won't stop either unless you let completely off the gas. Pedaling is NOT an option in my experience. Getting back to "ideal". Obviously that will be different for every car but it is very close to 20 psi, give or take a couple, for the 275/50/15's. Your results may vary.

I hated the Nittos on my GTP. My ET Streets are much better. If you don't drive your car in the rain, who cares?

My friends have had better success with the BFG's; they didn't last long but they hooked great.

I do have to say my Nittos were good in the rain.

What Boost are you guys leaving off the line. I have 26x8 Goodyear Slicks and I can't get a 60ft for crap. Went last Friday night. 6 Passes, best 60ft was 2.06 which sucks. I am leaving the line with 0-4lbs of Boost at best. Its not that the tire can't hold it, I just don't launch it harder. Haven't broken anything yet (knock on wood) and don't want to. But what is decent boost at the tree w/out getting stupid.

Push the brake pedal to the floor and ease into the gas after you stage. Dont worry about cutting a good light your time doesnt start until you move. If your foot brake oesnt work good enough use the foot brake and push the E-brake to the floor and let off both at the same time. Leave at 10 lbs.

Well, I haven't given my sermon on drag radials in a while, so here goes:

I don't care if you cut a 1.4 on DR's. The question is, what WOULD you have cut on a slick under the same conditions?

DR's are a big compromise relative to slicks. Especially on turbo cars, which are tricky to launch to begin with. A little too much boost and zing, DR's go away. Slicks, on the other hand, can take pretty much anything you can throw at 'em.

The only earthy reason I can see for running DR's at the track is if you're broke or lazy, and insist on not changing tires. That being the case, you'd better be prepared to lose, because 60's and consistency are out the window.

On the street, other than being expensive, out and out dangerous in wet conditions, wearing out within a few thousand miles (rendering them just as illegal as a slick), and picking up every pebble, every stone, every cigarette butt and subsequently sandblasting your quarter panels, they're just fine.

Let's face it. It's nice for the Mustang boys running 6's @ 200 to say they did it on their DOT legal tires they get for free and change every pass, but that's about as far as it goes.
