Hey I just bought a 68 Riviera to restore. But the hydraulic headlights don't retract. I don't really know much about this area. Anyone have any tips?

You might try joining V8buick.com and see if they can help. Our cars don't have that feature and very few of us know much about them. Cool car though.;)

It is actually vacuum operated, there should be a multiport diaphram that operates the doors. The diaphram should be the same as the Corvette from 1968 to the early 80's and was reproduced years ago. You should be able to find one if needed. I would start with tracing all of the vacuum hoses and replacing what needs to be replaced. Check for leaks and then check again, then check again...LOL. Good luck

Yup vacuum, I worked on our '68 with the plastic grille and lighter buckets, and my '67 which was metal grilles and electric motors and rotating cable arms to actuate them.

It's good to know they are the same as a Vette you should be able to get parts a lot easier.

68-69 Gto's also had a vaccum setup when equipped with hidden headlight option.

Camaros 67-69 also had hidden headlights and I assume vaccum as well
