79 Engine vs 86 GN engine

Is a 79 Regal 3.8 the same block as a 86 GN block? I think that I may have major damage to my car and there is a older great running regal non turbo for slae real cheap just down the road.

That is a bummer. I think that a Buick dealer toasted my engine. The put a new timing chain, cover, oil pump and valve spring in her and now it dont run. Started knocking real bad now will not even turn over.

the closest thing you can use is a 4.1 from a caddy or riviera...but you are better off tearing down yours and fixing the problems
