8.5" rear.....How much power can it handle

I just picked one up for my big block powered 84 olds cutlass I am going through it and replacing all of the wearable parts, bearings, seals,shims,ect. How much power will these factory parts hold before I have a problem? It is making about 500 ft. lbs. of torque. It is usually on street tires but it will also see sticky tires from time to time. Will the factory parts live for mostly street use?

Well Cal Hartline has run 8.50's in the 1/4 with his 3400lb Stage II GN (1.3x 60' times) with a factory 8.5" 10 bolt rear..... I don't think you'll have a problem

all stock rear 500 ft/lbs wont hurt it

the rear in mine has 199,000 miles on it and still has factory bearings and all

its been 10.41 at 133

YEP, THE STOCK REAR IS PRETTY DAMN STRONG FROM THE FACTORY. I HAD MINE OUT, SO JUST FOR ADDES SECURITY, A PUT IN A NEW EATON POSI UNIT AND MOSER AXLES (30 SPLINE) DON'T THINK I'LL BE BREAKIN THAT REAR ANY TIME SOON.

the stock rear end is virtually bullet proof...i am probably pushing near 600 ft lbs of torque and i have never had a problem with the rear...now the bearings and axles...that's a different story

i had to replace both axles because they were slightly bent and both carrier bearings because they were going south...i also replaced the pinion and wheel bearings...the gears and teeth and all looked brand new when i had the cover off...many guys are going 10's on a factory stock rear end...
