I plowed a deer this morning with my 85 T-Type so I will be driving my 86 T-Type to work for awhile.I hadnt driven it for 3-4 weeks and the battery was totally dead which it shouldnt have been.I hooked the charger up and the cooling fan started running immediately and wouldnt quit.I unhooked the battery cable to stop it and charged the battery on up.

I started the car up and let it run for 4-5 minutes. The cooling fan never ran.I shut it off and the fan immediately started running again even though the engine coolant wasnt even warm.I started the car up again and the fan quit.I shut it off and the fan ran and ran again. So I unhooked the batt cable and let it sit for awhile.

In about 20 minutes I hooked the batt back up and the fan didnt run.I then started the car up for 30 seconds and shut it off.The fan then proceeded to run and run so I had to unhook the batt cable to stop it.The car has never been warm enough that the fan should run.

Has anyone had this problem?Any help will be appreciated.Thanks.

Sounds like a bad fan delay relay. Its the larger of the 3 in a row relays(to the rear) on the left fender apron panel. Unplug it and see if it works normal then and report back.

The fan relay is held open with the battery voltage. When the battery is low the relay will go to the deenergized postion and close the contacts and you fan turns on. Relays can be made to be normally open or mormally off when power is off.

Disconnect fan or battery and fully charge battery.

i had the same problem on my tta, as soon as the battery voltage would start to lower, the fan would kick on- then it would totally drain the battery--

fully charge battery, then load test it to see if its still good--

U1ARUNIT-

what is inside those delay relays to shut the relay off right at 10 minutes??? just wondering cause my buddy and i were really bored one night and timed the delay relay, sure enough, right at 10 minutes it shut off---

thanks
bw

Not sure what times the operation. I just might have to dissect my relay now. Mine doesn't time out at 10 minutes though. It runs a little short of that amount of time.

Thanks for the info guys. Its on the charger all night with the batt unhooked.I will see what happens tomorrow eve after work.Guess I will drive my sons 289,4 speed 66 Stang to work.I have had a low batt before on this car(86-T) and the fan never ran like this.

Like most folks already said, just unplug it. It only cools the water in the radiator after the car is shut down. If you're racing, install a manual switch; otherwise fuggetaboudit.

Well,a good all night charge of the battery got rid of the problem.Since I dont race the car I will probably just unplug it.Thanks everyone.
