On my 87 GN will it hurt anything to put 87 octane in for everyday driving without getting on it at all? With the gas prices as they are I'm trying to save a buck but don't want to hurt anything. Also, how big of gas tank do these cars have?

Some may say no, but I have used it often with no ill effects. I just don't get on it hard with lower octane.

18 gallons but mine only fills to 15 before the vapors shut it off.

Do not get into any sort of boost with 87 octane.

If it were me, I would stick with the premium. It will just cost you about $3-$4 more a tank that’s just a couple of Pepsi’s. The car says premium fuel only and I wouldn’t want to risk my GN for $3. Plus what will you do when you pull up beside a mustang? Yell out the window I can’t race because I have 87 in. ;)

Good point! Every where you go in these cars you get revved at or thumbs up. Might as well be prepared:D

I'm wondering something similar. I'm still going to use 93, but I was wondering about using alky perhaps.

Has anyone set up alcohol to run with 87 octane and still run OK. I don't think you could get such lofty boost levels as you do with 93, but perhaps it's worth looking at if you want to save a buck.

If you are going to run 87, might I suggest turning down the waste gate. Instead of NOT getting into it. Just a bit of added security. Might also want to talk to a chip maker about burning a chip for your reduced needs.

You could also get a chip custom burned for very low timing levels. Spending money for a chip kind of counteracts the money saving idea of the scheme but if you are gonna run a lot of 87 through it then it would be worth considering.

I wouldn't put 87 octane in these cars...93 is bad enough...TRs like OCTANE...even if you never get on it, 87 octane is CRAP and will eventually ruin the valves and internals in the motor...it leaves nasty carbon deposits that can't be removed and the car will probably run poorly overall...stick with 93

The best gas we have at these alts are 91 octane. Have to buy race gas and mix sometimes :P

a local car tried that with alky, he got him self a new motor... NOT a wise move.... i would not do it.
