I’m looking to one day run faster then 9.99 sec in the ¼. Because I’m a dreamer and think about things like this to no end, what are the safety requirements to run this time? Of course I know that you need a cage, but please tell me specifically what is needed in the cage? Is the requirements based on the amount of contact places the cages makes with the frame, i.e. 6 point, 8 point, or 10 point cage? Also does the cage have other requirements, how the piping is run, for example, rear pipes straight or ran as an “X”? I guess what I’m asking is to know all of the requirements to get certified to run that time? Also, at what time do those requirements change, 8.99, 7.99, or 6.99….? Can any one tell me also the other requirements, i.e. battery relocation, ignition kill, fuel cell and so on? Thanks for any and all help!!!

Jason,

Heres what I know in addition to the NHRA info.

9.99 and lower requires a competition license meaning you'll have to have a physical, fill out the NHRA form and go to the track for 6 passes. The first 4 are varied depending upon the track.

Some will make you do two 60 foot passes and maybe a 330 and an 1/8 mile pass or any combination thereof. The last two passes have to be in the 9's to get your lic, once the two 9 second passes are done they are signed off by someone with a competition lic already and the track manager. You then mail it into NHRA and you get your actually comp lic and that certifies you down to 7.50.

You'll also need the appropiate gear like fire jacket, pants, neck collar, gloves and window netting and harness.

Thats what I know off the top of my head sure some others with their license already will be happy to jump in and fill in any missing pieces.

Best of luck.

if you are serious, you need to get your hands on an NHRA rule book (free if you join NHRA)

there are a bunch of requirements besides just a certified cage...not the least of which is a comp license & physical

a slew of SFI certified stuff is needed like balancer, flexplate, fire suit, window net, trans shield, etc etc

not to mention the stuff you need to just run 10's....... like no c-clips in the axle

it is expensive to comply, but chump change compared to building a 9 sec car!:D

Thanks guys a lot, once again, this is right a long the lines of what I was looking for!!! If there is any thing not hit on, please post.

Thanks again,
Jason
