Took me about 5 hours to find it when I rebuild my AC system.
Look at the tube from the drier to the evaporator. It has a bend and "small nick" in it. Remove the drier and look inside the tube. You'll see it.

Be CAREFULL not to break it whan you remove the tube. If it breaks, you WILL have problems!

Uh, Not on an 86. The orfice tube is in the lower line from the A/C box, behind the accumulator. Look for the lower tube coming out of the A/C box just past the bend there is a fitting. Use two wrenches preferrable tubing wrenches to crack the line ipen.

The Orfice tube should come out by pulling straight out. It has an o ring around the orfice tube so it will offer some resistance but not enough to break it.

Uh, Not on an 84! Mine was pretty hard to pull out and ended up using a 90deg pick. I know mine may have been dirty etc., but it is good to be cautious and not to break it in the tube ...... right?

Should have just come right out. I mean there's some resistance because the o-ring is tight agains the tube wall But caution is advised.

BTW if you are retro fitting to 134a use the ford blue it has a smaller orifice(.067) which will give you better temps. If you are using r-12 stay with the gm(.072) white.

"fastblackcar", can you please tell me where did you get the chrome accumulator dryer receiver? I'm looking for one but don't know where to look...:frown:
thanks,

Claude

Did you add the oil?

I have seen people forget to put new oil in the accumulator. Not sure what it calls for, but it shouldn't be to hard to find out how much is needed. This could be the reason for the noise.
