Finally looked tonight and saw that my block casting is the above number, not -26109 or anything else listed on engine casting guides. WTH.

Below this casting, clear on the bottom rear corner of the block, is another casting reading 3.8L GM G. The "GM" is within a square, like the General's logo.

Just how much of a dark side does this car have? :(
 
I've found references to a 79-84 date range. Am I going to blow anything up in my 400hp daily driver?
 
That is the same casting the 84-85 hot airs use. IMO it is only one step down from the 109 casting from a durabilty standpoint. You should be able to handle 400HP assuming everything was screwed together correctly and you keep the detonation issue in check.
 
It has no durability issue greater than a 109. They are equally weak. A properly built engine with accurate machine work as well as keeping the engine out of detonation is the key. I would be more concerned if it had non turbo pistons n it though. Be sure to keep it out of detonation.
