I herd another tale last night of 3 Monte Carlo Aerocoupe's that "accidentally" came with the GN drive trane. Is this as true as the twin turbo GNX with the big block made for the FBI?

yes it is ... they had the dual turbo'd GNX motors to .. I have 2 of them in storage

Unfortunately I parted all 3 of those aero coupes out  They were Gold with black lettering & Tan interior.
The reason they accidentlly put in GNX motors was a screw up at the factory where ASC installed moon roofs. This really confused the Baltimore Plant so they shipped them to MI.

All 3 drive tranes are now in Go fast Mini vans.

I had a guy ask me the other night at a show why I took the straight six out and put in a V6. I just told him I felt like it.

I bet the guy is confusing aerocoupe with just the regular montes which could in fact be ordered witht the 3.8 turbo motor I think in 81.

And I own 2 of those.:D

my el camino came factory 3.8 turbo, It was a factory option in 79, only if a family member worked for gm. My cousins uncles' fathers brothers brother ordered it, this is from the michigan plant, it underwent 500,000 miles of road testing on a single pair of tires, they were goodyear ultra kevlar tires, with armoral. it made 300 hp/500 rwtq on a single t3/4 hybrid turbo. They even made a model car after it....
I hear those vans were fast!!

Bad ass ride.

Hi,
I own a 1979 Regal sport coupe with the rare Y11 option. This package included a 350 cubic inch Buick V8, turbocharged, and THM 400 trans. The 8.5 axle has Eaton posi and 3.42 gears.Although carbureted, it runs 13.9 quarter miles at 105+ mph. These are STOCK times. A little tuning, and watch out! I hate that carb, though. Tuning is difficult. The car only gets 25 mpg with the cruise on, long trip. All in all, a pretty fun car, though.
