do i have to pull the turbo to install an adjustable wastegate actuator? the guy before me bought one, put on a bigger turbo, but never installed the actuator. i NEED it so i can turn DOWN my boost...cant afford race gas or alchohol inject yet...because my knock sensor goes all the way over to the last red dot if i spool up completely...thats because i have a red's 93 chip, ta49, 17# boost, green stripes, 91 octane!!! tried xylene, but thatll get too expesive and ruin my injectors over time, and besides, it didnt help enough.

with the 49 turbo you should be able to take the 2 bolts out that hold the wastegate to the compressor housing- so you dont need to remove the turbo!!!

there should be a clip holding the rod to the puck swivel, so dont forget to take that clip off first-

all you need to do is turn the wastegate OUT to lower the boost...

if you cant get the boost lower than what you want, just run a vacuum hose from the compressor housing to the wastegate, and you should get 13psi, depends on how tight the rod is...

No problem...
just remember the tighter the rod is, the more boost you will run-

make sure you have adaquate fuel octane so you Dont blow it up!:D

also, reds 93 chip has 23-24 degrees of timing in it, THAT may be why you are getting knock-

try lowering the boost to 14-15, if it still knocks, see if you can get a lower timing street chip and have the boost set to 15-16psi

I got the thing on, but the wastegate lever only goes back, I can't pull it back above 10#s. Is there a trick to getting it back up to like 14#s?

I've tried jiggling, hammering, yelling at it, nothing works. It is like it was never meant to go past perfectly vertical...the 10# point...and I KNOW it goes higher, thats why I put the adjustable one on...17# was way too high!
