Hi,

Does anyone know if we can use the fuel pumps found in the late 90's 3.8 Supercharged Buicks/Pontiacs!!

I heard that they were comparable to walbro 307/340 fuel pumps (and cheaper). Does anyone know what PSI the supercharged pumps put out??

You can get a new 340 for around $100, why would you want to save a few dollars and settle for less????:confused:

You can make your own hotwire kit for $15 or less if you want to save money.

Just my two cents on the matter.

Yup,buy the pump and hotwire kit form Jack at RaceTronics and be done with it.Just to illustate,think about what the capabilities are of the Supercharged 3800's and thnk about how big of a pump they would need flow wise.I doubt they would need much more than our cars did stock,if any.
 
I've got a hot wired 340 already. I'm trying to diagnose a hesitation problem... and don't feel like spending $100US on another pump.

I heard that the supercharged FP were comparable to the 307/340 for about $100CDN. (dealership & Canadian Tire)

If it's a fuel pump problem and I get it fix, then it'll only cost me $100CDN... and if it doesn't fix the problem, then I'm out only $100CDN (and not $100US).

And if I need to get the 340, Jack is up the street from me!!
 
Now it becomes clear.
You should be able to tune that 340/hotwire combo,no problems.
What's your combo?
TPS setting at idle?
Fuel pressure.
No vacuum leaks?
Sounds like you might be a little rich off idle.
 
It's basically stock with minor mods. Besides the hot wired 340, I've got THDP & dump with hooker exhaust, thrasher.

My hesitation/stutter & die problem happens when I've been highway driving for about 30 mins... at first I would get a little stumble and it get progressively worse until the car can't idle & just dies. I then let it cool down and I can drive like nothing had happen. I can drive for hours on the street without any problems

I've changed the coil/module, MAF and that didn't fix my problem. So I'm thinking it might be the fuel pump. It must be mechanical... something gets hot, performance deteriorate & when I let it sit & cool down, it starts like nothing had happen.

I've hooked up a fuel pressure gauge. And it doesn't put out any code.

That is what I am trying to fix:confused:
 
Does the Fuel pressure drop off after time?It shouldn't do that unless you've got a bad pump or a real problem in the charging system.I would also be sure your TPS isn't much above .42 at idle,ignition on/engine off.
 
It sounds like your saying that when the car is hot it will not idle.

I had a problem like this some time ago. Hear me out on this as it a easy, FREE, check.

Start the car and let it idle. If it dies, disconnect the MAF and restart it. If it keeps idling, then it is the MAF.

How did you determine that MAF you tried was good? If it didn't make any difference it could have been bad.

the TPS is .44 according to my scanmaster, and I've made the fuel pressure gauge visable so I can track the PSI.... but I haven't been back on the highway!!! Stalling or having the car run like sh*t on the 401 in Toronto isn't fun!!!!

Dan: Problem occurs only at highway speeds (60-75mph) after 30-45 mins driving... but I could drive forever on the street (30-40mph) and nothing happens. I bought the MAF off a friend that said it was good.... I actually have a translator & 3 1/2 MAF but not filter to fit the MAF.
