ok I am not sure if this is a problem or if its just me thinking I felt something different in the car or not

today I replaced the stock drums with aluminum ones

just took the stock off and put the aluminum on

nothing more

by the way it was on jack stands

I just went out to move it in the driveway and outside and I put the emergency brake down when I was done parking

oddly enough it felt like it was "too easy" to compress the parking brake down

any ideas or maybe it was just me not driving it for the few hours it was sitting out for

thanks

Carl

brakes

when you jack it up look behind the backing plate at the bottom and you'll see a little rubber grommet, take it out and use aflat tip scewdriver to adjust the brakes.you want to turn the adjuster and turn the wheel until the wheel gets a little hard to turn.

Cleaner, what cutt wrote you is right you do not want to over tighting. By the way thats not a dumb question. Thats way this is a great site everybody helps each other out. Good Luck!!!! Rob

hey thanks alot guys

do the drums need to be off?

in all honesty I dont remember seeing a rubber grommet but maybe its cause I wasnt looking for it?

I also heard from someone that I can back up and brake and the brakes re-adjust themselves
is this true and if so is this just as good as if I tried adjusting by hand but the difference is it will save me time?

thanks

Yes, that is true. By the brake shoes shifting in the opposite direction, it will make the adjuster tighten the pads to the drum.

They are supposed to automatically adjust by reversing but most times this doesn't work. It would take all freakin day too if it did work. It's better to adjust them by hand moving the star wheel as it clicks and set it up so the drum has slight intereference fit over the shoes and doesn't cause the brakes to drag.

If you do not see a rubber grommett then you have to remove the knockouts on the backing plate. there is 2 on each plate. Make sure you remove the one that is directly behind the star wheel. Then go to your local parts store in the popular HELP section and pick up some rubber plugs for the holes.

When I did rear brakes on the ttype, I just backed up and hit the brakes a few times. They seem fine to me.
