Aluminum Drums &or Bumper braces Poll, GNs only

I'm curious to see what % cars had aluminum parts, and what years.

I have alum. drums but steal braces for now (soon to be upgraded) I didnt see that option

My car was a posi equipped 87 so it had steel drums and steel bumper brackets. Now has alum drums and completely removed the front bumper braces and installed the rare non brace brackets.. G80 car

I was under the assumption at posi cars had steel while open rears had alum..

87 GN = all steel

87 T = steel drums, aluminum impact bar reinforcements

Both are G80 cars.

These are the OEM items, I didn't change anything.

I'd like to know for OEMs only:

Year
Model
G80 or not

I think that would be more revealing...

:D

86 T type = Al Bumper Brackets, Iron Drums, G80
86 GN = Al Bumper Brackets, Iron drums, G80

If you are asking how it came from the factory then my posi '87 GN had steel drums and steel bumper supports. :(

If you are asking what it has now I have upgraded to alum. drums and alum. rear bumper support and export style front bumper brackets.

86 T type = Aluminum Bumper Brackets, Iron Drums, G80
87 GN = All steel, G80

Let's try this:

- All '86 GNs got aluminum brackets

- All '87 GNs got steel brackets

- All '86 and '87 non-GN TRs got aluminum brackets

- All TRs with G80 got iron drums, excepting GNX, which got aluminum

Does anybody have any evidence to the contrary???

BTW, both my 87 GN and 87 T are Canadian cars and adhere to these rules. Neither has the so-called "Canadian bumper brackets", and I don't believe these brackets were used on any '86s/'87s exported to Canada.

:D

Yah I don't know who termed these "Canadian" brackets but we have the same crash rules as the US. Furthermore I've prolly seen 200 Canadian cars and non of them had these brackets. I think these were used for export outside the US and Canada. Maybe a more appropriate name would be "Mexican bumper brackets" :D ;)

I think you're right. I looked up the so-called "Canadian bumper brackets" in my 44W book. I infer the 25517838/9 brackets were used on '84/'85 Regals that were exported, but not to Canada...

:D

What are IIRC brackets?

Thanks.

Non-G80

IIRC = Indestructable Inside Real Canadian steel brackets

(just kidding, it means If I Remember Correctly)

I just don't have the time or the will power to crawl on the wet ground to check right now ;)

Prolly true, Strike.

,, except I'm not sure the '86 and '87 non-GN TRs got aluminum brackets, and for the GNX, I'd expect to see iron drums on those.

Anybody got a T with iron bumper braces??

My '87 Limited is Iron and Iron....
