What is the difference between an -AN fitting and a 37deg JIC? Everybody talks about using -AN fittings on their cars for various purposes. I have no experience with them so I don't know much about them. However at work, we use JIC fittings for hydraulics and they look very similar. Could someone shed some light on this topic for me? Thanks.

The ONLY difference is material. JIC is 37* flare and so is AN. I use mostly JIC as it's about 1/3 the price and I can get it locally, even on a Saturday. As a matter of fact I bought some today. I have very little AN stuff on my car. I don't like the "bling" of stainless braid stuff. Push-Lock, or Twist-Lock hose is NHRA legal. BUT do NOT use hose clamps over the push-lock fittings after you insert the hose. This can cause hose failure. JIC comes in mild steel and is usually cad plated and looks pretty good. It also comes in stainless. If I have to weld up a fitting, I just spray paint it gold, and it looks good as new. Here's a pic of my fuel system using JIC push-lock stuff:

37° Flared Compression Tube Fittings , Also known as JIC (Joint Industrial Council) fittings, these fittings withstand higher pressures than 45° flare fittings.
