Well found out the column shift linkage is supposed to be there along with the cable from the shifter. My question is....when I go to put the transmission back in can I remove the column linkage and just use the cable or is the linkage from the column necessary? Thanks:)

For safetys sake hook up the rod to the column. Its what controls the neutral safety switch. A long story short, once I tried to do a quick and dirty transmission R&R on my GN and got in a hurry and didnt hook up this linkage. While the car was up on 4 jackstands I reached in through the window, started up my car and procided to watch the car fall off the stands and take out the back of the garage wall. An expensive lesson learned the hard way. Eric Fisher

I'd say you need some new jackstands;) Start mine all the time on stands...

Turbofish is right. Hook it up. Not only neutral safety but it also contols idle speed (park/N to drive)
