Anyone? WOndering if they would make the exhaust sound better. have the hooker system, just want more noise. i have no cat and a 3" dp and its still not even as loud as my stock 5.0

It will sound horrible. I too have a Hooker and wanted more noise so I went to Walker Welded ultraflows(race magnuns) and it got a lil louder but still too quiet so i went with a cockpit controlled dump pipe and butterfly valve:) sounds great now:)

thanks for the opinions, but anyone ever actually try it????/and if i wanted to, should i just buy the 2 1/2 inlet and 2 1/2 outlet ones? thats what the hooker mufflers are right? only reason i would try it is because they are so cheap and i want more noise!!!

The only thing I've heard them on was a v8 regal...so not too sure what they'd sound like on a v6. Different for sure.

Definitely a less expensive way to go. Given that, I'd just buy them and try it out. I'm guessing not many (if any) on the board even tried it. Shoot, I didn't even know they still made those things :)

Worse case = you hate it = throw them out = get something new.

With dual 3" in/out "cherry-bombs" , it sounds like a herd of chainsaws or flock of airplanes. If noise (and attention) is what you are looking for, TRY THIS. Also for max effect, install them reversed flow( W/louvre openingtoward the back).:D

I noise is all you want, then here's some advice. DON'T GET GLASSPACKS!!!!!!!!!!!! Not only will you have the noise, but you'll have horrendous back pressure. Ever look down into a cherry bomb glass pack for example. The inside is much smaller than the inlet/outlet, and it's full of louvres sticking into the exhaust stream.

The muffs I have are bullet shaped, very short, very cheap and loud as he**. I really don't care for them that much but needed them to gain max performance and still be legal at Pamona (mufflers required).
They're Race Magnums (and are straight through, no perforations sticking out impead flow). Check Jegs or Summit they sell them.

turbodave, what company makes them? if you dont care for yours anymore, wanna sell them?? do you have them on the hooker system and they bolt right up??

If memory serves, the Race Magnums are made by Dynomax. Mine are on my ATR 2.5" system, and as cheap as they were new, and as old as they are, they wouldn't be worth the trouble to remove them, unless I had replacements, which I don't right now. ;)

To busy getting ready for my big impending move to be selling/shipping anything for a few months.

Glasspack is a generic term for a fiberglass packed muffler.

Anybody with the ATR Pit Bulls has glasspacks.

If you're referring to the classic JC Whitney Cherry Bomb, don't buy it. Not only do they sound like poo, they ARE poo. They'll rust through in a year.

turbodave, any specific reason you dont like them? will the 2.5 inch ones bolt up to my hooker system? are they bad loud, or good muscle car loud? im just trying to get a sound similar to what i used to have on my 5.0, full and loud(had no cats with flows)

Chambered Mufflers

The LS1 guys run Chambered mufflers and they sound very aggressive on the LS1 motors. Stainless Works sells those mufflers but i don't know how they would sound on a TR. GMMG i think has some sound clips or LS1Tech.com

i bought my car with cherry bombs on it. the kind that are painted red. they are not very loud and i really do hate them. i dont like the "raspy" sound they make when you let off the throttle. stay away from glasspacks.
if you want to be loud then get a test pipe with a dump on it. i just put one on my GN this weekend...............it is loud. sounds like a small block v8 and you get a lot of people wondering why your car sounds like a v8 with a "whining sound" to it. ;) you can really hear your turbo after you get a dump on your car too. i dont know why i didnt put one on sooner. opening up the dump actually makes a little difference in the performance department. the turbo seems to spool instantly now.

Not exactly. Glasspacks (cherrybomb design) have a completely differnt interior core and are heavilly restrictive because of their design.

Dynomax also makes a Race Bullet muffler. Straight thru low restriction design and very inexpensive.

Goodluck..
:)

True, per my earlier post.

i have the dump tube and it sounds like crap when opened, i cant even stand it. and there is no way it sounds like a V8 at all.

it might not sound like a v8 but it definately sounds better open then when its closed because i have the very restrictive cherry bombs.

My car had cherry bombs. I picked up about 3 mph switching to ultraflows.

Also, avoid chambered mufflers. You want the lowest restriction, lowest back pressure muffler you can buy. This would be a straight through design with smooth sides (no internal louvers or dimples).

my 86GN had them.... went 12.88@106 @19# of boost with just thoes, race chip, race gas, fp reg, K&N and some slicks. That on a 1.77 short time with a open rear.
