What kind of car was it off, a hot air? I need an upgraded turbo for my '85 GN, and I'm unsure how to make a TA49 fit.

I just picked up a regular ta49 for my hotair........ anyone know what it takes to modify one of these to fit? I know U have to reclock the housing.

I (think!!) I have access to a closed down transmission shop with a lathe among other stuff if I have to make an adapter (<<< has no idea what he's getting into :p , but should be fun)

Too make the intercooled TA49 fit you have to cut a piece of the outlet housing off and retro fit it to your adapter or do like many others have done and send it to a respectable turbo builder and have them weld your adapter to it. As for the one that I have it's a TA49 in a stock housing I have had it for 2 years and just had it rebuilt 2 weeks ago by a local turbo company. Works great I just have bigger turbo and this one was temporary until it could be repaired. IMO 675.00 is dirt cheap when it cost me 800.00 2yrs ago and just cost me 345.00 for the rebuild.

I have a 3 year old 33 that PTE went though 400 miles ago.

Drilled at the adapter for alky, could use for NOS or easily plugged.

It's off the car and in my house make an offer it could go out tomm.

Went 13.0 @103.5 in mild tune on my hot air.

May be pulling the V3 if anyones interested in that......let me know.

What's your plans after this Chris, just wondering? Too bad you guys weren't there Sunday to see the hot air hit it's first deep eleven. It did run an eleven while Jeremy was still there Saturday. Karl said he saw you guys run a few times. That's the only thing that sucks when you're racing you never get to see your friends race.

After the summer from hell I have decided to make some drastic and probably unpopular changes in this forum to my hot-air over the winter.

After having the TY a year and seeing the how well an I/C works, I'm converting to 86-87 setup.

Plans are the 49 that's on it. Blues (ditching the damn 868's). Stock I/C w/ Dutt neck. 3" DP. And all the misc B/S to go along with the conversion. A good friend is parting out his 87 so I will have it sitting side by side for the swap.

I'm sure my car had a lot more in it and was tuning away from mid 12's on alky-pump gas-thru the exhaust. The last time at the track I left on 1 pound with a 2.4 '60 and it went 103.5 on street tires.

But alas I'm tired of beating my head against the wall trying to fix old parts (the KB headers are rotting away, there's 10 lbs. of weld in them now), battleing with a chip to work with the 868's that Mikey sold me, and having a car that will make one quick pass then have to sit for 2 hrs. to cool off. I want to be able to do a 30-100 roll against a F-body twice in a row.

The bottom line is I'm lazy and tired after owning this car for 7 years and always needing more money and time to make it a low 12 sec ride. After having the TY go 13.6 with a pump and filter........13.0 sounds slow.

J&K have A LOT of time in there car and it shows.........11's is freaking cool out of hot-air. Lee has shown they can go fast if tuned and set-up correctly. The problem is I watch othrwmn take his 70k stocker and go from 14.2 to 13.0 in 4 passes using a cone good gas and cranking the boost. NoCooler just went 12.3 @ 110 on pump gas thru the exhaust on alky and get this stock turbo-inj-I/C (Dutt neck)-DR's on a peg leg.

It's kinda like making a LT1 car run with a LS1----it can be done but you are starting out a sec slower than the other guy. I want to go mid-low 12's without breaking things and I want to do it keeping my air-cruise and all the other things that makes a T/R cool.

So sorry guys and girls another is leaving the fold, I admire all of you that have and will continue to carry the Hot-Air banner and make these rare underrated cars go like GM should have in the first place.

If anyone can think of anything they need that I will be removing PM or E-mail me and we can work out the $ and approx time of removal.

Godspeed. Christian

Hey you have to be happy with the car. Bottom line. I have a lot of time, but not really that much money. I was offered more then I have in it earlier this summer and told him it's not for sale. I am just happy we are finally going down the right road. Not like we didn't have our share of gremlins... Good luck, you'll like a intercooled motor all the way around. Just not my thing. Local celebrity what in your own mind? LOL
