Hi there. Anyone out there know what it entails to replace the astroroof seal. is it something you can tackle yourself? I have the replacement seal but just a little apprehensive about ripping out the glass panel as it looks like a real %$#@*! to get out. Any ideas as to who I might take it to to get a quality job performed? I live in new england area (MASS).

If you do it yourself...

Make absolutely sure you tape around the roof opening with some thick duct tape(Twice!) before you attempt to pull the glass through the top of the roof opening...otherwise you will most likely scratch the sheeit out of your roof.

I found it to be fairly straightforward following the instructions in the link above...but found it easier to pull the glass panel out from inside the car. Unfortunately I didn't figure that out until after I had wrestled with the panel...and scratched my roof.

It was also pretty tricky to get the new weatherstrip to sit flat on the glass panel. Some patience...and 6 large dictionary type books helped to hold the weatherstrip down until the adhesive was dry.

Thanks for replies

Thanks for the replies guys. It does sound like a bear of a project. Well I think I still have time to sit and ponder on attempting the project as the weather in New England absolutely BITES!!!! Maybe i'll wait until summer finally gets hear. At least that might give me a whole week to fart around with it. Thanks Again!

It is a pain, but I did it. I just followed the steps outlined in the link provided (for the most part). I did run into two post installation issues though. 1) I pulled the seal too tight around the glass on one side when gluing it down. That left a little too much gasket slack when I got the other side. Getting proper tension across the entire gasket is a pain. 2) The sound deadener that is stuck to the underside of the roof (asphalt like sticky panel) must have become partially dislodged during the process. Upon the first opening of the new installation the glass slid back and the seal kissed the sound deadener...........ripped my new seal

By the way, the whole thing took two days. I let the seal adhesive dry over night before I reinstalled everything.
