I run an ATR Dp301 Downpipe with the ATR external wastegate. I just installed my ATR headers and the downpipe is against the crossover clamp. Im sure I can tighten the clamp down a bit to get a little space but how much? I dont want to bust the clamp. How tight should it be??? I have to unbolt the rest of the exhaust as now the downpipe is about an inch or two to the right of the exhaust. Just curious if anyone else had such tight fitment?
And how far can I tighten these clamps?
Scott

I'm using their DP303 pipe and headers and have about 3/16" clearence to the clamp. I positioned the clamp so the #2 cylinder pipe is at the opening with the bolt going down from the top. HTH

Yes, that is exactly how I have my clamp but how much can I tighten it??? Mine is touching.

Scott

If your talking about the vband clamps, they can be tightened pretty far down... I used to crank mine really tight trying to get crossover to seal good.

mine rub on the clamp. I just sent them back for inspection, as the flange was leaking also.
Ill see what they have to say.

You sent it back to ATR? All they will tell you is that they have sold thousands without a problem therefore you must be installing it wrong.

Sully

well of course it is..;) . they will tell you to use the copper gaskets to get it to seal. The individual coppers are a pain in the ass and the one piece they sent me didn't match correctly. I ended up using 2 felpro 1400s on each side.

Ok I called ATR and she was explaining something about loosening the turbine housing from the compressor housing and turning it. OOOOOOO K. I said what if this doesnt work. She kinda was beating around the bush saying "well keep looking at it till we can get it right for ya" I sensed a bit of falseness in her statement. However, after getting off the phone with her, I thought wait a minute, even if I loosen the turbine from the compressor housing, only the compressor will turn because the turbine section is connected right to the header. HOW the hell am I able to turn THAT? As for checking everything out, I looked at it closer and tightened the crossover clamp as tight as possible and its all the way on. Still wont fit. The Downpipe is kind of like a "seesaw" with the clamp in the center. If I put it on the turbo it moves towards the frame and vice versa! Im pissed. I didnt have a fitment problem with my stock headers. ARRRRGH! Can anyone advise. I've had an offer for a DP303a trade but I feel I spent 600 bucks for this dp and wg plus 60 bucks to have john craig modify the wastegate. Id hate to take a loss, I loved the ease of controlling boost with the external wastegate!

Once again ATR's wonderful after the sale customer service is shown. I am sure two lane will jump in and tell you how great they are but you learned the same way I did..... experience.

I don't know what to tell you about your situation. I know the Terry Houston DP will clear ATR headers and the flange but that isn't a lot of help.

I don't know how fast you are trying to go but stock headers are good into the 10's. Put the stockers back on and you can use the DP. Sell the headers for more go fast stuff.

No thanks on the header swap, all that work putting them on. stock ones are sold. Id rather do the trade for the dp303a then take those headers off again. Any other suggestions, I think I would be cool If I had a spacer in between the downpipe and turbo. Do they make such a thing?

HERE'S AN IDEA FOR YOU

Scott,

How old are your motor mounts?

Lots of folks like to get a new pair on just before a header and/or DP install so there will be maximum clearance around all the exhaust components.

Some prior posts with similar issues found getting some new motor mounts on (www.hrpartsnstuff.com) cured their fitment problems, with a variety of brands of exhaust components.

Might want to consider it!

Keep us posted!

HTH :)

That is a good point. The documentation with the headers even states that the motor mounts should be replaced when installing the headers. That's the kinda thing ATR should ask you when you call.

Steve

WHATS THE DIFFERENCE! The problem lies in the crossover clamp. The mounts have nothing to do with it. If it was banging while it was running thats another story. However it hasnt run yet because it wont fit!The header, turbo, and downpipe are all connected together one way. The downpipe is up against the clamp. And even if it were the motor mounts, a new set went in 5000 miles ago. But again, I think you misunderstood. THe downpipe is hitting the frame right now Unassembled to the exhaust and fastened to the turbo. I had the downpipe on with my stock headers and no frame banging. I had the room with the stock headers. Its the exhaust clamp!!! AHHHHHH!:p

can you reclock the turbine side of the turbo slightly to allow the DP to clear? there is usually some give between the turbo and I/C

How can I reclock the turbine? if it attaches to the header, how can it move and what does the compressor side have to do with it?

Scott

ya know what? you are right, you can't clock the turbine once connected to the header so forget that:rolleyes:

I was thinking about clocking the compressor to line up my wastegate, but that doesn't help you.......

I know my ATR headers are close, but my TH downpipe clears the crossover clamp ok....

guess I am no help...sorry

UPDATE!

Well, I have spoken with her (i think her name is shelly) about the downpipe again. She said she was going to contact someone in my area (chicago) to take a look at it. I cant remember what company she said. (maybe jk performance???) She called me back today and let me know that he was out for the day and will contact me tomorrow after speaking with him. So we have a bit of contact so far. I will let everyone know how this is resolved!

Scott

Ok, I didnt receive a call from Sherry thursday or friday, so I called monday. And she said "I was awaiting your call to see if you got everything straightened out". MY CALL? SHE TOLD ME SHE WAS GOING TO CALL SOMEONE IN THE CHICAGO AREA TO TAKE A LOOK AT IT. AND HOW WOULD "I" GET IT STRAIGHTENED OUT? IF I COULD DO IT I WOULDN'T HAVE CALLED. ANYWAYS A FRIEND OF MINE (DR BOOST)<--U DA MAN, CLAIMED THEY USE NEWER CROSSOVER CLAMPS THAT WERE SMALLER. So, all caps aside, I mentioned it to her and she gladly sent me a new set of clamps and gaskets. Lets see if they work. I will keep you all posted.
