backfiring through the airfilter...

Hi out there have a quick question for you all , when I put my foot through the floor board my car is starting to get some hesitation then starts to surge and I get what sounds like a misfire through the air filter. I'm thinking it might be my coil pack on it's way out???? any suggestions? . it also has been happening at highway speed when I step on it to pass, the car will speed up but get some hesitation surging then get the backfire then pull again then pop again. my major concern is when it happens my knock rating goes nuts. I have good fuel and the alky, just wondering if these are possible symptoms of a coil pack on it's way out.. let me know

Sounds like coil pack to me... Could also be fuel supply, but more often than not it is the pack...
