It means the alternator is not charging. My guess is the belt is slipping when you go WOT. Check the pulleys for a fine black dust, that dust is the belt slowly being torn up.

I'll check, but I have a fairly new alternator as well as a fairly new belt.

The car has actually cut off and then come back on and now the car is incredibly difficult to start. What I mean by this is the car turns over but it won't light easily???

Make sure the new belt is a 635K6, not a 640K6. Many of the parts catalogs list the longer belt as a replacement for the stock 635K6. The longer belt will slip.

check your positive cable for any chaffing or missing insulation, especially around your starter. I've seen the same symptoms resulting from the positive cable grounding out on the starter shield (mainly on WOT).

also chech for a loss light bulb or plug behind the guages. thats what mine was. the circuit goes threw that buld and tells it how much the alt needs to put out or something like that.

This problem just started and I've had the same belt for the past five or so months.

Can anyone explain the fusible links, could this be an issue? In other words what is the purpose of each fusible link?

links

Hi,
Well, most of the fusible links are in a wonderful spot, taking power off the B+ on the starter. As I remember, the computer and fuel pump link is by the battery. It seems to me that your problem is NOT links, though.I would check the belt tensioner regarding the wot idiot light. If that is ok, then do a check of the alternator output. It sounds like something wierd is going on. Good luck!

I am humbled and bow down to B_Rich, the positive cable of the starter somehow got bound up against the starter shield. This was causing a short under acceleration and during other periods of time.

I am surprised the damn thing didn't catch on fire and burn up.

These cars will only run in a zero defect atmosphere which can be very frustrating if you are learning about them.

Anyway thanks for the help everyone, another lesson learned.
