A bubby of mine bought me one of these for Christmas and swears by it. He uses it on his Porsche that spends a lot of time in the garage and heard me mention jump-starting the GN, again, so figured I could use it. I was just wondering if anyone else has one of these or knows anything about it. I have to admit, I really don't like the idea of leaving a battery charger plugged in and connected to my car all the time. Feels like I'm asking for trouble.:( Should I worry?

For $17 at walmart you can buy a "vector" onboard charger that you can either mount on your car or just mount the Plug so you can use the charger on other cars when driving the TR. This is the cheapest thing I've found for a car you don't drive more than once a week.

It is a "smart" charger that will shut off when the battery is full so their are no worries of overcharging.

I killed 3 GM batteries in one day a few weeks ago so I an now the king of useless battery info.

Rule #1 is NEVER over tighten the post screws unless you want to buy a new battery (don't ask me how I know this) so take it easy with those 8mm wrenches.

I am using a regular ol trickle charger with an automatic cutoff, will this work just as well? I would think so, just a bit more bulky. Is the battery tender the same thing just smaller?

The battery tender is a microprossor powered smart charger. It CANNOT overcharge a battery. I have been using them for many years on many cars and leave em on 24/7.. No need to worry and it is the *BEST* thing thst you can do for your battery

I've never used one...

but have heard nothing but good things about them. Distributed by Pep Boys in the area.

I think they have a web site and could be a good item for group purchase. If I am not mistaking the will sell direct with volume discounts.

I hooked up the $15 Walmart charger this winter to my 1 year old Delco battery that kept dying. Now it stays fully charged. And as a bonus, it made the little green "eye" in the battery turn green again
